i don't know (personally) any other SGers. it feels a little lonely. so i thought i'd tell ya'll a little a/b myself by way of the people i love.
today's installment:
my parents.
my dad is 13 years older than my mom. he was married before her to a german woman for 10 years. then they had a baby and a few months later krista died of breast cancer.
my mother was married before, too. to a man in the navy. she never talks a/b him.
my mother grew up poor. her father was a blacksmith. he died of lung cancer. she learned to shoot a rifle when she was 4. she was a really good shot. my grandfather would pit her agains his brother in sharpshooting contests - tin cans off a fence, that sort of thing. my grandfather would stand behind her to catch her from the recoil. she always beat her uncle eugene.
my father was the son of an english professor who was the son of a methodist minister. her started playing golf when he was 11.
my mother was valedictorian of her class. she was also the football princess, the homecoming queen and a model.
my father played basketball and football and every girl in his graduating class signed his yearbook and they all sounded like they were in love w/ him.
my mother has had affairs.
she got a practical degree - all the way to her phd. she didn't really like her work. and when she retired she started writing novels.
now she's much happier.
she's the reason i got my bachelor's in creative writing.
my dad is a fantastic singer - a baritone. he has sung ina community chorus all his adult life.
my parents didn't let us get a pet until all three children did all their chores, w/out being asked or reminded once, for one whole month.
i was the youngest - i was the weakest link.
we got a cat when i was 11.
my mother always said how much she hated the cats - tear up the furniture and shed.
but each one that has passed away she's bawled her eyes out.
when tazmin died she was the one who asked to get a new kitten.
my parents opened checking accounts for each child when she turned 16 to teach us to manage our money.
they never bought us, or helped us buy, expensive "luxury" items - stupid toys like cabbage patch kids, stereos or cars.
when i couldn't sleep as a child i would sit on the landing of the stairs in the dark and peek into the livingroom at the yellow light where my dad was grading papers and listening to classical music.
if he knew i was there he would invite me to come down and sit in the rocking chair by the stereo and i would flip through smithsonian magazine or the new yorker, the 2 of us in silence, till i got tired and went back up to bed.
my mom liked my look so much when my shaved head was growing out that she got a buzz cut.
my dad's the smartest guy i know.
my mom's the smartest woman i know.

That is a mountain of information right there. And it was a delight to read it all.

you're parents sound so awesome! my mom has been incresingly the strongest person i know- my dad passed away about a year and a bit ago, and this past year i've just been like, pretty amazed at how she is getting on with her life at age 55... she's honest about hurting but at the same time she knows that she can still be happy and have a good life. she works really hard though, i swear so much of my inspiration to get through school now is like, the idea of being able to someday really be able to take care of her and make sure she has like, the best twilight years possible 'cause she's just done so so much for me and my sisters... thanks for sharing, it's very heartwarming!
