8 pints (combined, between Guinness, Murphy's, and some random cider that was on tap) later, it's bed time. =)

I need to drink more. My tolerance is somewhat less than it used to be. While my spelling may seem reasonable here, you're not seeing the use of the backspace key. (Or, if I was typing on my laptop, the delete key, as there is no...

Hi! I'm Alex, for those of you who haven't met me, nice to meet ya. smile

Why, you may ask? Oh, I'm in a good mood. It's Friday, warm and sunny, and if birds aren't chirping, that's their own damn problem. Plus, now you won't have to attempt to pronounce 'Rylhor'. However, while this is not how I pronounce it, it has been suggested that one...

Ticketmaster has expressed interest in making sure I "don't miss Toby Keith!"

Obviously, Ticketmaster's ability to analyze what I have been interested in in the past and extrapolate what I might be interested in in the future is less than satisfactory.

They really need to take a lesson from Amazon. When I get recommendations from them, half the time it's something I've already purchased elsewhere,...

Dude. You are welcome to my friends list as you are a) interesting and b) have told me why you want on to it.

Which is all I ask.

Trust me if you go expecting car crash style entertainment you will be disappointed.

It's quite a good horror movie in its own right.

So, an amusing chemistry anecdote that I will express entirely in Lehman's terms in order to communicate the humor involved to whomever may be reading this. smile

DISCLAIMER: After talking to someone, I realized that it's entirely possible that most people may not find this as amusing as I do. So, reader beware. wink

So, if you've ever taken a chemistry course, you're probably aware that...

Had a conversation earlier with someone about the fact that I don't believe in anything. She was convinced that, I quote, "everyone has to believe in something." She finally grudgingly let me off with the cheap cop-out, "I believe in myself."

Part of my nature is to question everything. I'm fine with something not having a sufficient explanation, as I have no problems coming...

This is the Faithful Steed. As you can see, a hybrid he ain't.

My math really isn't all that screwy. 25 psi @ 2000 RPM is 12.5 psi per 1000 RPM. 27 psi @ 3400 RPM is 7.9 psi per 1000 RPM. So in this case, 25 is higher than 27.

A typical gauge package in lieu of idiot lights in a typical vehicle is water temp, oil pressure, and volts. Sometimes you get an ammeter instead of a voltmeter. My truck came stock with an ammeter, water temp, and oil pressure.

While I like gauges, I'm not a big fan of ones that read C to H, L to H, or D to C. That is why I replaced the stock Chevrolet ones with AutoMeters. I also added a tach, vacuum, oil temp, and a voltmeter. So the only stock gauges in my dash are the speedometer & the gas gauge.

the 2005 Nobel laureate is a pretty cool guy. Likes his booze, apparently, especially on hiking trips. Not to mention contributing to the fact that one of the Cornell faculty members is no longer allowed in a certain national park. =)

Also, brilliant guy. Some of the stuff he's been telling us about is pretty cool, in the "What the hell made you think to...

That wasn't dancing at all, we were playing a game on the eye toy where we had to scratch virtual records. If you listen closely to the video, you can hear the scratching. biggrin

How fabulous that you've had the chance to meet Nobel Laureates! smile

I noticed your comment on the UpstateSGNY board about a Syracuse event. After linking over I was perusing your journal. What are you working on in grad school?

I've been thinking about grad school alot lately. I was a dual major BS Biology and BA Philosophy. It was pretty awesome, although there isn't much you can do with either major. I went to medical school for a year and got kicked out because I failed a bunch of things (I had mono and went on anti-depressants - the politics of medical school don't care though).

Anyways, what do you do in your lab? I'm currently working in a wet chemistry lab in E. Syracuse. I hate it. LOL! I'm looking for new work and trying to decide what to do with my life. Any suggestions?

Thanks and Peace!

Sometimes I think I should have been a philosophy major who's interested in science, instead of the other way around. There's really no way to go back once you've gone into hard science, though I intend to try and bridge the gap once I'm done with grad school/post-doc.

I feel like I used to be a much more interesting person than I am right now,...
