Afternoon all! Just got some fantastic news. I have volunteered for a mentoring program the studio has set up with a local elementary school.
I just got my paperwork this afternoon with my information on it. I was originally told that I would be getting a fourth grader, but I've been paired with a fifth grader. (Maybe they were worried I'd be too much for one so young? lol)
His name is Lawrence and we get started on the 3rd.
I'm so excited, I can't wait. I'll be helping him with his reading skills. Most of the other people here in the studio will be going and doing art or crafts or that kind of thing. They pretty much BEGGED me to be a reading tutor since they can't get people to do that sort of thing.
We can read anything we want, so I plan on buying the Encyclopedia Brown series. I remember loving those as a kid and I also remember that they were kind of short. I think that if I choose the exerpts that would lend themselves well to props we can read, try to figure out the "clues" with props I bring in, and then turn to the back to solve them.
We'll see how it goes. Huzzah!

i bet the fairy image of yourself was drawn on paper with little slots on it..am i right? has my deductive reasoning impressed you?
..if not:
i predict the lobster was not alive because it is RED and that happens after its cooked - also the bar of gold isnt REAL because it would be far too heavy for him to lift with one hand, and..oh wait - am i giving too much away?
y-e--ees - thats a very vague reference to encyclopedia brown.
good luck with the mentorship.
cheers,
