So, I was thinking today about how I always rush on Saturday to get my ipod plugged into my laptop and update last.fm submissions because it seems like some bizarre tragedy if i don't get my last.fm updated by the time that the charts are updated. i don't know why it matters so much.
Anyway... I thought I'd post a facebook message I sent to my friend Jerrod the other day about music recomendations when he asked if I'd heard anything good lately.
Here's what I said:
It's a little bizarre to me that I just got into the Cold War Kids this past week. I'm not even sure what inspired my download... I think it just seemed trendy so I figured why not.. They sort of remind me of Wolf Parade who I saw in Lawrence sometime in the early fall and really got into. Their album is "Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary" and if you like them... the lead singer has tons of side projects... Sunset Rubdown being the best and Atlas Strategic being the second best.
The other bands I've been listening to lately are Camera Obscura which I've heard best described as "methadone to Belle and Sebastian's heroin"... I've been listening to a lot of The Mountain Goats lately too... I know I'm way way behind the curve on that one but if you happen to have not discovered them, you should get The Mountain Goats - Tallahassee, it's a great album though he's going through a divorce at the time and so he's a little bit bitter to say the least. I've been listening to some of Do Make Say Think, the album is "Do Make Say Think - You, You're a history in rust" and the genre is post-rock which I sort of hate to like. Oh and speaking of post-rock, you should check out The Bon Savants. They're album is "The bon Savants - Post Rock Defends the Nation" and I'm not sure it's actually out to buy yet... They bill themselves on myspace as glam rock/shoe gazer and being the only person I know who has a weak spot for The Jesus Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine I tend to wrecklessly check out anything associated with shoe gazer and happened to luck out on this one. The best songs are "The Bon Savants - Mass Ave. and Broadway" and "The Bon Savants Between the Moon and the Ocean" but really I like the whole album.
Alright. I think that's enough. I'm in a strange (especially for winter) music funk where I find myself mostly disappointed with all my typical music. I usually go through this during the summer, but for some reason The Raconteurs kept me occupied when the weather was nice and now Ani DiFranco and The Decemberists just aren't cutting it... how unfortunate.
After I sent this... I listened to Margo guryan i'd recommend her too. Oh and Beck is rocking my world. And the Shins new album.
