Some of you may be aware that Monarch butterfly numbers have declined dramatically the past few years due to a number of issues including winter habitat loss in Mexico and decline in their host plant -milkweed- in the U.S. I planted a patch of wildflowers starting last year with more this Spring including milkweed, black-eyed Susans (Monday's photo), butterfly weed, purple cone flower, zinnias, etc. in hopes of attracting and supporting a few migrating Monarchs. Spotted my first visitor this afternoon. Here he is (yes, he's a boy).

Gorgeous. I saw a couple in my yard this weekend. MY dog is scared of butterflies though. Haha
