Had a nice relatively quiet weekend. Stayed over at Melissa's on Friday night and we went to Half Priced Books for a little while, I hadn't been to the Cap. Hill one before and ... wow. I got really distracted. I picked up a copy of "The GOlden Compass," the first book in the "His Dark Materials" series and it if FUCKING. AWESOME. Thanks to Shannon and Rachel for pointing me towards those books because they're directly up my alley. Heavy social commentary / philosophical shit mascarading as young adult fantasy fiction? I'm there dude.
Turned in relatively early that night and took care of a few things around the house on Saturday while Melissa pulled some overtime at work. That night I FINALLY dropped off the CDs I had reviewed for Brian and West to go into the KEXP library and then went to the last Authorities show at the Funhouse on Saturday night. It seemed like it was time for the band to close up shop for a while at least; it was always a band that seemed like it was equally about all four of them and the loss of both Sean and Ralph was definitely not something to continue after, but it was a good show and it was really interetsing to hear Matt's interpretation of the drumming, plus Justin and Josh seemed to have a really good attitude about the whole thing in general which was good to see. They're going to continue to pay a token amount to keep access to the practice space on an irregular basis, which is totally cool of them and the money goes towards our electric bills, which is nice. I also finally got to meet Melissa's supervisor / co-worker Darren, who was awesome and bought us more than a few drinks (many of which were spilled by my klutzy ass)Stopped by our friend Patrick's house after the show with Molly and yelled things about scrotums and the ever-present "Cack-Wash" in Patrcik's back yard, much to the delight, I'm sure, of most of the hill.
Woke up late on Sunday and continued what is becomeing a tradition of cooking an uber-greasy hangover breakfast, although by the time we got back to my house with the fixins it was more of a hangover later lunch, which became somewhat daunting after we found out , still in our hungover food coma stupor, that the barbecue we were attending that night had started at 5pm, so we headed over to west Seattle to Melissa's friends Charly and JOhn's house and got there in tim eto see the slides from their trip to Turkey and Greece a few months ago which were amazing. They do stuff with a local group committed to preserving ancient folktales / myths / legends and their trip was really focused on that aspect of the areas, so there were some really beautiful pictures of archelogical sites and relics and things. It made me kind of sad because I have never been outside of the country really, I've barely even seen America (never been to New York, etc) and I really want to get out and see more of the world, but it always seems like something gets in the way.
Anyway, Monday I got together with Brooke to refresh our memory on the songs we've written so far because we're getting together with Matty on Wednesday and we didn't want to waste his time futzing around trying to remember stuff once we're actually working with him. I'm really excited because Matty has a lot of good ideas as a drummer and even if this ends up just being a short term arrangement I think it will be really good for me and Brooke in terms of coming up with stuff and getting our feet under us.
Thursday I'm going to be doing an on-camera interview with The Futureheads for LIve Eye Tv, which I'm really really excited about because they're one of the few new bigger-ish bands that has really excited me recently. Anybody out there got any questions they want me to ask them? :-)
Okay. That's pretty much it.
