...well, it looks like today i can actually be arsed to write something here. Its my day off and i am that bored.I might go out later, maybe go to haverfordwest shopping or something.I still have a few gifts left to buy for crimbo.I was up pretty early this morning, always am on days off with this damned night job. So i have been lounging around the house watching 'The Faculty'..haha..,great film. SAw a pretty weird zombie film last night too called 'Dead Meat', it had zombie cows in it.nice.
I am missing my friends, and dare i say even missing Leicester at the moment .. really badly.I would pretty much do anything to be there at the mo.But hey, my quest here is almost done and i have almost managed to save enough cash to return.I hope to return next year when the opportunity arises.
My next big mission is to somehow find a room to rent.Pretty hard when your in Wales.I am sure that i will manage somehow though.( hehe...just got a card through the door from sarah, and a letter too.Put a smile on my face.)
I thought i would use some of this time to say a few words on my trip to Berlin with my bro, which happened around a month ago now..lol.
As i mentioned it was a really cool trip. The journey to the airport was a bit of a nightmare, the weather was awful.Heavy winds and rain, my brother did a brilliant job of driving considering that it was the longest journey he has attempted so far.We got to the airport with plenty of time to spare and had a beer in amongst the other retards drinking at a stupid hour. Our plane got delayed by an hour..more time to kill.
The flight out was all good, even got some sleep. My brother didn't though as he was too nervous.haha.
Arrived at the airport and immediately got nervous, we where now in germany, neither of us could speak a word of german, we didn't have time to learn any, it was a last min hol.(embarrassing i know)..and on top of that we had to catch the s-bahn to Alexanderplatz, normally this was easy enough, but a large section of the line was closed for maintenance (cue lots of swearing). we couldn't read german so we had no idea where our change over was.We asked some random guy who was very helpful, but we still didn't quite get it.We just got on the nexyt train and hoped to hell he was right. To stops down he told us that everyone had to change.Yet again we where lost. This time we asked this tall drunk dude with a really deep german accent wearing a hockey top where to go.Again the guy was extremely polite and very helpful, but totally wasted. He literally herded us both onto the relevant bus.Nervous glances where exchanged between me and my bro although i proudly admit that i was far clamer than he was.hehe. My brother panics waaaay too much.
Got of at the right stop and began to search for the next station, and the right platfrom.A couple of very nice guys from a local emo rock band came to our rescue (climax in june). They where very friendly, many thanks to them both if they read this. They humoured us on the train until we reached our stop. Finally we arrived at Alexanderplatz over an hour and a half late. Now we just had to find the hotel. This took around an extra half an hour.We asked a cab driver to take us to the hotel...he just laughed at us and said we don't need a cab its really close by.BUT WHERE?..lol.. not very helpful.I am happy he got his kicks though....git.Asked a random older couple. The guy was less than helpful.I think he thought we where going to ask for money or something, he was very rude. His wife/girlfriend was very kind and helpful though and stopped to help us both as best as she could. We finally found the hotel. It being a huge high rise block with the hotel name projected onto the side of the building like a huge glowing beacon.Yes we both felt like complete idiots.
Literally got in, dumped our bags then went back out to try and find food. The only place open was burger king : (.. now i hate burger king, i hadn't eaten one in around four years, but on this occasion i wasn't going to complain..Neeeed fooooood. We then ended up at a local rock club (The lime club) It was really cool.Dark and dirty, just the way i like them with great music and great beer.We both got stupidly drunk.., we went a bit too crazy in fact.I vaguely remember watching some music channel back at the hotel and lauging at a music video..i think it was rammstein not sure though. I had to peel my brother off the floor and dump him on the bed because he had gotten in and just fell on the floor passing out.i ate a whole box of snack bars and then passed out too.We both woke up the next day with horrible wheat beer hangovers. We missed breakfast and went out on the quest for food around 12.Did the usual exploring and shopping for munchies supplies.
The next evening it was down to my brothers choice of venues. My brother and i have totally different tastes in music.I like mainly alternative stuff he likes cheese and dance music. We didn't drink that much at all that night, we just couldn't...i think our bodies where still in shock form the night before.
We decided to visit 'The Last Cathedral' for a few drinks first. The last cathedral is by far the best goth pub i have ever been to.It was all decorated like some fantasy cathedral/castle inside and you had to go down a spiral staircase to get to the bar. There where little booths to sit in, aswell as tables with skeletons under glass and coffins.etc. The beer taps had skulls on them, and the place was lit with eerie lighting, and real candles. There was even candles on large holders on the bar, handy if you didn't have a lighter...and it just looked fucking cool. There was a dance floor and a wide selection of different types of people, not all where hard core goths. The music was great too.We stayed for a couple of beers, the went off in search of a club with dance music. We passed this place in the main square of Alexanderplatz, which just looked like a regular high rise building, flats or a hotel or something.I actually thought it was a late night art museaum or something.
There where two guys on the door and people milling around in what looked like a large reception area but that was all, no music could be heard or any other signs that it was a club.Over the next half an hour while we looked around the area for clubs, we passed it on a couple of occasions and we cept seeing groups of people all dressed up disappearing inside the building.Eventually we just went up to one of the door man and asked what it was.Yet again feeling stupid.
Sure enough it was a club, and as we where queing up in the odd reception style place we could vaguely here the music.we couldn't tell if it was above us or below us.Thoughts began to form in my mind and i began to form images, thinking of that scene in the club from the movie 'Blade'..it was pretty weird.
We joined this group of americans at the entrance to the lifts (there was three of them), and we all looked at each other in total confusion, trying not to look the tourist. We laughed and joked as we tried to figure out which button for which floor we where going to press. There where no signs indicating which floor it was.The doors opened and we all jammed in, thankfully by this point some regulars had joined us so we let them push the button.Top Floor?
This club was located at the top floor of the building, pretty much the entire floor had been converted into a club, with a dance floor at one end a bar in the middle, and strange raised blocks for seating in the opposite end.there where also windows running right around it so you could look out over the city.Definately the best dance club i have ever been to.The beer was a bit shit (they only did becks), the music was ok..very basic house music, very same same, but the sort you could either dance too or ignore. The atmosphere was friendly..and the women where beautiful. And the people where interesting, there was none of this blue jeans white shirt bullshit that you get in clubs of that type in england.Almost everyone looked different it was quite refreshing. We left after an while as my brother wanted to see if there was anywhere else. There wasn't so we went back to the hotel to get some kip in the hope that we could catch breakfast the next day and do some exploring instead of lying in bed all day.
For our final day we did some exploring as planned, visiting some of the more historical parts of the city. The older architecture is very nice and it would have been nice to have had time to see more.
Most of the clubs where closed on the last day, it being sunday. So we decided to go out for a meal and then have a few quiet drinks in the 'Last Cathedral'.A few quiet drinks turned into a..."oooh these cocktails look cool, i am going to sample some"..to.."fuck it, i wonder how many of these things i can drink without getting a hangover tomorrow?"..yep, bad idea.
I remember for my last coctail i asked to bar lady.."make me something, anything you recommend, but i want to be able to walk out of here tonight. Ihave a flight to catch tomorrow."..she must have thought that i said' i don't want to be able to walk out of here' because that was the strongest sex on the beach i have ever tasted.Maybe she just wanted to see me suffer i don't know.I was also trying to get the staff to drink with us, but the only one i could convince was the D.J. My brother had had it way before we left, and by the last coctail i wasn't far behind. We stumbled home in fits of giggles confused as to why germany has so many cool beverages and so many pretty women ,and why england seems to be going down the toilet.
Yes we had a hangover, yes we caught our flight the next day, No, we didn't want to go back to bloody england. Can anyone teach me german??
