(From my blog at www.rackpackcomics.com)
Somewhere in the middle of eating spaghetti, waving their hands around in little "o" shapes, and shouting, "I like-ah da pizza!", two Italians managed to make one of the best comic books I've ever read. For more reasons than are worth mentioning, I just now got around to reading the Marvel/Soleil comic Sky Doll. If I were less lazy, and if the Lushes weren't too bombed to read it*, I'd write a proper, pages-long review of this book, but funk dat noize. Here's all you need to know:
1. Fun, expressive, Don Bluth-ish artwork that seems simple, but upon closer inspection, you will find that it is deceptively detailed and meticulous.
2. A story that is and characters that are fun, interesting, touching, and multi-faceted.
3. Lots and lots of naked boobies.
4. Biting, challenging social and religious satire.
5. The story of a robot made to be a sex slave that discovers she may be the most important person on the planet.
6. Did I mention it was made by real-life Italians? It had to be translated and everything. I mean, these guys have never even seen an Olive Garden!
The best part is, the sequel will be out soon! This time I won't wait to read it because, frankly, I can't.
