Job done - i am officially unemployed. The harvest here will run for another 2 weeks but 85% of the fruit is in. I am not that hopeful for much of the labels though. There have been some strange decisions made about a raft of things that havent borne fruit. Not my responsibility and even though it broke my heart a little to see these decisions being made and acted on sometimes you just have to humour the system and those that make the running.
My single barrel ferment went really well. Only a couple of things that I would change and have learnt from. Shame is there is a little tank of ultra filtered lees that is quite corruscating in its personality but 20 litres (10%) of that @ 6.7 degrees alcohol fully dry does add a certain jene sais quoi to my 14.2% Marmujuelo bad boy. If I had the time and inclination I would add all the fining agents to it to clean it up a touch and prepare for filtering and bottling. 325 bottles or so from 250 liters would be ideal as my experiment showcasing the best variety from this years efforts. However i think it would be taken as a bit arrogant. UI have asked and be told they dont wish to make a single varietal of the Marmujuelo but I think theyre wrong.
Tomorrow is religious festival madness called El Soccorro which involves a bit of Grand ol Duke of York action where we march down thew mountain up anopther hill to the place where the virgin mother appeared to someone then move down the hill to the town of soccorro for a fiesta with dancing drinking and eating. Its gonna be a long day but hopefully a good one.
Ill let you know how I get on
Venga!!!
