TM Sisters Exhibition Statement
Electric bolts streak the sky. There is a lot of commotion and an extra presence moving in the space between the earth and heavens. Awe-inspiring acts of God connect what cannot be seen. When lightning strikes, positive and negative charges are evened out. They are a split second of beautiful and dangerous strength. Thunder can be experienced longer and at greater distances than the lightning is seen. Vibrations of super powered spiritual existence and colorful musical soundscapes drive us forward. Many bands use power imagery to express the emotion in their songs. Video games use flashes and bursts to enhance actions and movements of the characters, objects, and environment. Peoples interaction with these elements are entertaining, jagged, and dazzling. Lyrics in songs and wisdom from verses provide the insight and humor that fuel our work.
TM Sisters Bio
Tasha Lopez De Victoria, 22, and Monica Lopez De Victoria, 24, have been involved in throwing punk concerts, creating fanzines, producing musical happenings, photocopying flyers, and sewing clothing. Their do-it-yourself ethic started from being home-schooled by their parents. They were raised in Miami as the daughters of a pastor turned psychotherapist/professor and grew up surrounded by intense spiritual and psychological discussion. Their ties with underground culture led to the Sisters' family being thrown out of their church. Despite this experience, their connection to God has only deepened, and is one of the main subjects within their work.
The Sisters collaborate in the mediums of xerography, sewn collage, video, performance, painting, animation, and video games. Their brother, Samuel Lpez De Victoria, also works with them in programming and conceptualizing the games. Monica graduated from Florida International University in Photography and Video and Tasha graduated from New World School of the Arts in Electronic Intermedia. Their work has been included in exhibitions at the Miami Light Project, Miami FL, Mezzanine Gallery, San Francisco CA, Rocket Projects, Miami FL, and this October will be featured in the exhibition entitled "Uncertain States of America" Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Gunnar B. Kvaran and Daniel Birnbaum at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo, Norway.
Opening Reception
Opening Reception to include a live art piece orchestrated by the TM Sisters.
