So I decided to go to the For The Kids Festival in Chapel Hill
The lineup was as such.
La Quiete
(amazing emotional hardcore all the way from ITALY)
Phoenix Bodies
(thrashy hardcore from Indiana)
Baroness
(sludge metal from Savannah GA)
Architects
(heavy hardcore from Austin TX)
Ultra Dolphins
(fun hardcore from Richmond VA)
Brainworms
(fun punk rock from Richmond VA)
Divider
(blasting metal from New York)
Hi Ho, Six Shooter!
(western inspired indie rock from Richmond VA)
Giant
(ambient metal ala Isis from Greensboro)
Boa Narrow
(groove hardcore ala Capn Jazz from Greensboro)
Wolverines
(spastic hardcore from Greensboro)
Tarantuloco
(ex-Chet Stedman, 1st show everrr, from Greensboro)
I went by myself, which wasn't bad while the bands were playing, but it got to be a bit boring during the set changes. I kept myself occupied with my handy cellphone, though.
The bands were awesome!! The music was sooooo good.
The younger crowd always brings the kids that feel as if they have something to prove. They have to push harder, act crazier, and be more obnoxious. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that, but I go to see the bands, not to push people around.
Then after the last band played, I was crossing the street to go to my car, when I heard glass breaking and I saw all these people rushing this one person and pummeling he/she.
I kid you not, in what had to be less than a minute from the glass breaking, cops showed up. There were six cop cars. I have never seen cops show up that fast. It was nuts.
I took that as my cue to leave.
As I passed a couple of people that had been at the show, I asked them what happened.
They told me someone had been jumped, and walked inside all bloody, and that's when all the people went outside and rushed the one person.
I don't know, I have never really been to a show where I felt threatened. I had always kinda felt like we all respected each other. But today was different.
Crazy night.
