I really love this question, and I think it’s super important to think about. I believe that most of you can agree when I say that the main things I think that people should believe in, is happiness, and treating others how you’d like to be treated. I absolutely hate companies or people (especially ‘important’ people - cough, donald trump) that discriminate; wether thats discriminating against race, age, religion, sex and more. We’re all human and deserve to be treated with respect.
I feel like the EASIEST way you can stand up for what you believe in, is by speaking up when you see behaviour you don’t believe in. I know it’s too easy to mind your own business sometimes, but I really think (unless it’s a violent situation) that you should share your knowledge with that person that’s in the wrong. This doesn’t mean you should get angry and yell at them, but i.e. if you see someone littering, let them know how it effects our environment and ask them kindly to make more of an effort.
Another way I stand up for what I believe in, is by sharing information with people in a positive way, without being overly assertive. As an example, I believe in a plant based diet, and like to stand up for animals and give a voice to the voiceless, and although a few of my friends are also vegan, the majority of my family and friends are not. Instead of getting mad at them because they don’t have the same views as I do, I simply explain why I choose not to eat meat if they ask. I would love it if more people looked into adopting a plant based diet, but I’m not going to hate on somebody if they have a different opinion to me.
Another way (which I don’t do enough) is really just putting your beliefs into action! This may be something like running a small marathon to raise money for a charity you believe in, or volunteering at an animal shelter because you hate the thought of mistreated animals being alone. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing, either! It can be as simple as starting to recycle properly, or voting in a plebiscite (i.e. the Australian postal plebiscite for gay marriage was not compulsory, but I voted because I believe gay marriage should be legal)
I hope you all have a lovely day, and continue to fight for what you believe in every day <3
Thank you @missy and @rambo !
