this is the first year ever that i can't go home for christmas - it just costs entirely too much for too short a period of time when i could get a flight for a quarter of the price and go back for three times as long in march when my sister has her baby, so i'm going to do that instead. while i am really sad about it, i'm also kind of excited to start new traditions for my family!

traditions i will be keeping from my family:
-obviously, a christmas tree (but fake, i'm allergic!)
-handmade stockings! my mom lost mine and my younger sisters a few years ago so i made some hilarious ones out of inappropriate sunflower curtain fabric, and i intend on doing the same for me and john (and lula too).
-cheese, crackers, cookies and fudge on christmas eve
-opening presents christmas morning - no sleeping til noon, and you take turns opening them one present at a time. also, i kind of want to get this, is that wrong?
-christmas cookies and buckeyes. more people in california must know about buckeyes, they are so delicious!

What a bittersweet time for Californians. In case you're not familiar with Prop 8, this is an amendment to the California constitution that takes away people's fundamental rights. This is the ONLY amendment that if passed, would take away rights instead of grant them.

Regardless of how you feel about "the sanctity of marriage" and about homosexuality, it is WRONG and DISCRIMINATORY to say that one group of people should be treated differently from everyone else.

NOT OKAY.

I guess I'm posting this too late, but I just thought I would share that although I am proud of my country, I am incredibly disappointed with California and those who helped Prop 8 pass.

For shame.

i feel so awesome to have voted in the biggest election in decades. i know california won't decide the president, but i'm happy to have gotten to vote on important propositions like 4 and 8.

i haven't been taking a lot of pictures lately because i've been really uninspired and i'm fairly certain everyone including myself is getting tired of seeing pictures of my dog (as adorable as she is). i decided to spend money i don't really have on a new lens, and i couldn't be happier. it's a canon 50mm f1.8, and oh man, i love that thing.

I love the Olympics. I don't care what sport it is or what country is competing or if its even a medal event. Don't care, I'll watch it. It's safe to say I'm obsessed with women's gymnastics, too - I spent the past month reading every article and watching every youtube video i could find. My boyfriend is kind of creeped out that I know so much weird trivia about so many sports, but mostly it's funny to him that I'm so obsessed. Whatever, I just want to see amazing athletes in incredible shape doing these mind blowing things that I can never dream of doing. My mind, it is the boggled!!! Anyway, I was pretty bummed this weekend because my car is in the shop again, so he got me my new favorite shirt in the whole world:



Vintage, too - holla!!!!! He also bet me that I wouldn't wear it every day for the duration of the games... he has no idea what he's in for.

Lula learned to swim this weekend! She kind of hated me a little bit at first, but then she chilled on the raft with me for a good half hour.



Alright, I'm off to watch some more shit on nbcolympics.com - the best part is, after the Olympics are over, I get to go back home to Ohio again and see everyone at Havana, woohoo!!
