I predict you'll be fine. Lots of things can upset us a great deal, but it doesn't signify a defect or inability to cope. It also makes lots of sense to be very uneasy when a loving and caring person is no longer available to help you deal with things. Any change is stressful when it comes, so I think ya ain't psychotic.
BTW, everyone thinks I'm skilled in technical matters and have some aptitude for "guy stuff." It's pure rubbish, because the only secret to fixing or assembling objects is just plain stubbornness. I will read a manual or instruction leaflet for some gadget and invariably have no idea whatsoever what any of it means. I just continue to struggle, rereading the thing endlessly and pondering the device until I finally figure it out. I particularly enjoy explaining this to women so they don't swallow that nonsense about being genetically incapable of doing certain things. We can learn anything that isn't intolerably boring for us to pursue with sufficient tenacity.

I'm sorry you're not happy. There's no way of escaping all pain and sorrow since we can never see the future or read people's minds, but we all get through these things somehow. Once you learn to remember that you can ultimately find a fix for whatever's wrong, it becomes easier to endure disappointments right from the start.
For what it's worth, I think you deserve a nicer Christmas present than whatever you're going through.

I think it was sweet of you to invite a bunch of people who didn't have the sense or good taste to appreciate you or the trouble you went to. Most of us don't know an army of gracious, fun and interesting people, so don't go thinking of the whole thing as your failure. And at least now you know all of them a bit better.
