What's that? Bagpipes? Bagpipes!

I circle around Pioneer Courthouse in search of the piper.

He drones, in navy blue parka and tan slacks, looking nothing like a Scot, at the northwest entrance to Pioneer Place, the corner of 5th and Morrison, by the free paper vending machines.

I lock my bike at the rack in mid-block. I stroll by and toss a...

Hey, did you see lord of the rings?

And about the irish girl who I followed for a few yards, I knew she was irish because she sounded irish. But she could have been someting else, I guess. I don't have the best ear for that kind of thing. I mean, I know she wasn't brazillian, or french.

You're reminding me of the dwarf in that movie, lord of the rings...

I like Cool Hand Luke too.
Do you know who Utah Philips is?

Yes, that was your Uncle Graysius striding through Jake's in his kilt last night.

Oh! the magic it works on the ladies.

With her beige, polo-shirted mate blathering on about golf, or cars, or Disney cruise ships, she sneaks a glance as Uncle Graysius approaches.

He is ready. He catches her gaze, raising his eyebrows in concert with a sly teasing grin. Caught ya, ye...

I get to ride my bike in the rain all week.

Fuckin' yeah.

We rain-riders are a different breed.

We have three testicles. Each, not among us.

Keep yer weather eye out for my Jolly Roger, flapping free on his coat hanger staff from the aft deck.

The Graysius is outward bound. Aweigh!

My Christmas tree stands in a shadowy corner devoid of lights and trimmings.

I've never let the tree go untrimmed this long.

I am awestruck.

I am much more aware of the tree's spiritual presence.

The tree comforts me. A silent sentinel. Far more at peace and assured than I.

Yes, we will get dressed up to revel in the return of the Sun.

But...

i love this time of year. everything is sleeping, waiting for the sun to be born again.

my grandmother died on the winter solstice, right at sundown. i've always felt she picked that day specifically.

I think the uncatlike behavior that I found so enchanting must have been a bad case of dehydration, actually. Now that she's got her strength back, her true cat spirit has emerged & knows no bounds. All of a sudden she's perfectly curious & mischievous & rambunctious and how on earth am I going to keep her from chewing through the xmas lights wires?

I've never heard another person other than my father tell me to 'keep my wits' about me. He used to say that to me almost every day. Makes me wanna give you a big hug87777775(kitty typing).. xoxoxox

Season's greetings.

Thanks for the encouragements to update more often.

My fingers get cold below 50 F, so I haven't been motivated in the last few weeks to conjure the magic moments reported in my October and November journal entries.

I also have a predisposition to self-censorship.

My central dilema is that I enjoy pretending far more than dealing with reality. It seems that everyone...

I prefer to pretend. Reality? what's that? let's imagine it doesn't exist. Ready? set? go!
clitilda:
Isn't how or what we pretend to be just as honest an expression of our true selves as simply laying it all out there? Besides, I think the editing process (in our brains) is what keeps us sane. Had a conversation with a crazy person lately? No edits! Its enlightening, but exhausting..
ps I had to look dissemble up in the dictionary.

Bought a new bike this weekend.

The Huffy looked cool, but it was made of crappy and heavy materials - probably salvaged Belvederes and Oldsmobiles.

But now I know why they're called Huffy. Wrestle that pup to the top of Mount Tabor, and boyhowdy, you're huffin'.

I'll say this for it: that beast beefed-up my gastrocnemiae.

Treated myself to a private dance at Cabos on...

Sometimes you have to go out on a limb.

In an internet software startup, it's a job requirement, part of my routine. Today, I addressed my team colleagues regarding the feasability of a component:

"I will be deeply suspicious of the synaptical integrity of any colleague who thinks we can deliver this 2003.02.01 "

Stirred things up some.

But the tech writer complimented me on...

Last Thursday, I decided to wander up to Conan's to check out the Thursday night selectahs, have a Kilt-lifter or two, then call it a night. At the very least, I could check in with one of my current crushes.

On my way up 38th, I saw a flyer posted on a phone pole for Friday night's show at the Mount Tabor... and it *wasn't*...

Had a good time in the Park Blocks this afternoon.

I started learning a new song. Not exactly new. "A Man's a Man (For A' That and A' That)" was written in 1792 or thereabouts by Robert Burns. It's actually an anti-aristocratic, anti-oligarchic anthem that, true to the spirit of the Age of Revolution, praises the honesty and integrity of the commoner by contrasting...
