I figured I'd go ahead and do this. I thought about it long enough and finally was able to come up with 10 CD's I really enjoyed this year.
1. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Catchy, melodic, and just plain good. I can't help but put this #1. I can't name one bad song on this CD. My Favorites: Time To Pretend, Weekend Wars, Kids.
2. Does It Offend You, Yeah? - You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into
More Catchy shit. High energy to every song that makes you feel like dancing. Huge surprise for me when I saw them at Lolla. My Favorites: Battle Royale, Dawn of The Dead, Attack Of The 60 Ft Lesbian Octopus.
3. Alkaline Trio - Agony & Irony
Sure it's a little bit of the same, but every song feels completely different from the last, with the same heartfelt morbidity that you'd expect from Alk3. My Favorites: In Vein, Live Young, Die Fast, Lost and Rendered
4. Santogold - S/T
What can I say? This is a great CD. The girl can sing too. My favorites: L.E.S Artistes, Say Aha, I'm A Lady
5. Los Campesinos - Hold On Now, Youngster...
I just recently got a hold of this one, and it's.......hard to describe. Every song has soooo much going on that it's kind of......out there. My Favorites: Broken Heartbeats Sound Like Breakbeats, This Is How You Spell "HAHAHA, We Destroyed the Hopes and Dreams of a Generation of Faux-Romantics", You! Me! Dancing!
6. Flogging Molly - Float
Not one of my favorite Flogging Molly CD's, but even an average CD by the band is better than most of the stuff out this year. Every song has soooo much heart to it. The music is always top notch too. My Favorites: (No More) Paddy's Lament, The Lightning Storm, Punch Drunk Grinning Soul
7. The Offspring - Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace
I haven't been a big fan of The Offspring for a while after some subpar Albums, but this new one really comes back to the roots of what made them......them really. This CD is still a little different from past ones though. They slow the tempo down quite often on this cd. It fuses nicely. My Favorites: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid, Hammerhead, Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?
8. Crystal Castles - S/T
An odd electronic sound that steals alot from oldschool 8-bit beats. Still damn catchy and makes me drive reeeally fast. My Favorites: Courtship Dating, Vanished, Love and Caring
9. Starfucker - S/T
Same type of odd sound from this too. Really catchy beats though and really solid. Though a lot of the songs sound awfully similar. My Favorites: Myke Ptyson, Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second, Hard Smart Beta
10. Vampire Weekend - S/T
Good Indie stuff from this band. More on the pop side, but I can't help but like it. There are a few songs that really don't do much for me, but it has enough redeeming qualities to keep it in the top 10. My Favorites: A-Punk, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, M79
There you go. Hate it or love it, that's my list.
