Wow,I'm ecstatic.
I've been bent on Dropkick Murphys for the last two albums. I ws planning on seeing them around home on this tour but was waiting to see if any photo assignment came up first. They are playing Baltimore but not D.C. (Heathens! Philistines!)
So in the press I've been following a regional MMA show in the Boston area who are holding a show 3/14. I contacted them I was interested in covering it, planning to fly up the day of the show and back again the next day. Had no idea what else was going on in Boston, just looking to check out that show.
That is when the promoter informed me it is St. Patrick's Day weekend and I should stay for the parade 3/15. Sounds like fun. I cancelled my original plane ticket and looked into what else was going on.
Turns out Dropkick Murphys are playing 3/16 (actually 12-17) to wrap up their tour! 16th is with Black 47 and only one tickets were still available so I bought one.
On a whim I sent DM's management an e-mail asking for a photo pass in exchange for sharing the photos with the fans. I used to do this with local bands and small touring ones but haven't been shooting bands in years. A little surprised they agreed. Thought they would be like Ani DiFranco etc and be a little too aloof for such a request.
So...three nights in Boston over the St. Patrick's Day weekend, paid for by vacation days from dayjob (which seems doomed at this point).
http://malarky.udel.edu/~keith/2008/travel/Graves102408.htm is a page of travel shots from Boston last October.
Times like this I don't mind the sacrificies to live my life.
So...how was your weekend? Got plans for St. Patrick's Day? Can you make it to Boston?
