Have a seat, ladies and gents. I've got a humdinger of a story for you all.
OK, so the time is 1:15am. The place is the Mezzanine floor of the IMU, by Sugar and Spice. Frankie, Terry, Joey, Diana (manager) and I were stripping the wax off the floor with hot stripper of the Pro-Strip variety. (Nothing quite feels like dunking your hands in a pail of hot stripper.. but that's another story.) When all of a sudden we hear 2 sharp metal thuds. I turn to Joey and say "What the FUCK is that noise?!" He looks at me quizzically, he has no idea either. Then we hear this sobbing and wailing and a "DON'T LEAVE ME YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!!! THEY ARE GONNA GET ME AND KILL MEEEEE!" More metal thudding. Terry immediately radios the building manager Tom (the one that caught the hobo getting a BJ in the 8th floor mens bathroom of the SAC tower). Diana, Joey and I walk around the corner to see some extremely intoxicated/fucked up young man. We get him to come over to us and sit on a table and he begins this fractured story about how he's really sane, and how he didn't want to drink and that the people that he was with made him drink and that he's not like them. Fumes of alcohol were just pouring off the guy.
He had wild and erratic mood swings and seemed to switch emotions at the drop of a hat. He went into paranoid rantings about how he wasn't safe with the people he was with and that they were gonna kill him. Then, he'd start crying and blubbering about how he's a freshman and is moving in this weekend. He also got angry and made threats to me, and my co-workers saying how we didn't fucking know who he was and that his parents were 30 seconds away and that he'd fucking kill us or anyone that got near him. My superior, Diana was trying to comfort him until Tom showed up, cause building managers take care of the drunks, etc. Tom took one look and ran off the phone the cops. He gave Diana his wallet for some reason and we were trying to keep him in one area so he didn't hurt himself by banging on any other things like glass windows or concrete walls. I tried to calm him down and he told he that he could kill me and that I was the ugliest fucker he'd ever seen, etc. I was trying not to laugh, cause I really didn't want to provoke the guy. He got off the table and angrily stumbled down the hallway towards Burger King. Diana reminded him that she had his wallet, and he demanded it back threatening to "pop" Diana in the mouth if she didn't cough up his wallet. She held it out to him and he made four attempts at grabbing it from her outstretched hand. He managed to get it on the fifth try and shouted, "THAT'S MINE, BITCH!" He then made his way down the hallway. Diana, Joey and I followed him at a safe distance just to make sure he didn't hurt himself or cause any damage. Surprisingly, he made it outside, out the doors that are near the computer cluster there by the Back Alley.
The cops were already at the IMU, but on the other side. Our "friend" was heading back towards Kirkwood sobbing and screaming. He headed into the wooded area there in the Old Crescent across from Wylie Hall. We were keeping Tom and the police aprised of his location, and soon enough we saw a squad car come up through the Sample Gates, and another from the direction of Ballantine. The cop looked at Diana and asked where he went and she said he went into the wooded area. The cop started his patrol car down the path.. but then stopped a little ways in. There on the ground, bathing in the headlights of his police car was our buddy.
He appeared to be passed out. The cop was joined by another officer and two more showed up soon there after with Tom in tow. Diana was heading back to the building, but I told her, "I wanna see this!" The first cop prodded the young lad and he woke him up. I didn't get a clean view from where I was but I saw them hoist him up on to the hood of the squad car. The stoned young man was screaming and threatening the cops.. much the same way he threatened us earlier. They searched him and then I heard the tell-tale "schriiiiiiip!" of those plastic Zip-tie bracelets. We headed back and finished our work for the evening.
About 20 minutes later, we hear this over our walkie-talkies:
Amy: Front desk to Building Manager.
Tom: Building Manager here.
Amy: The mother of the drunken freshman is here and she wants to know where her son is.
Tom: Well, the cops took him to the Hospital. She can see him there.
Amy: 10-4.
Diana, Joey, and I are over at the food court resetting the tables, carrying them and gingerly setting them back on a newly waxed floor. We hear this conversation and all start laughing hysterically. That kid was way fucked up, we could only imagine what the scene at the hospital would be like. We finish up for the night and I'm returning the truck keys to the Front Desk. I give them to the lovely Amy and asked her what the mother was like. Amy said that the weird thing was that his mom didn't seem shocked at all about her son's behaviour. I filled her in on the encounter and she said that it sounded like he was on a combination of drugs and alcohol.
I ran into Tom on my way out and he said that after we left, he had tried to bite one of the cops, and the cop flipped him and dropped him face first down on the pavement hopped on his back and put his knee to the kid's back. The kid started screaming about police brutality, and the cop angrily told his squadmates that: "The sonofbitch tried to bite me!" The kid quieted up once he caught Tom's gaze and knew that he wasn't buying the whole brutality thing, since he saw the dude try to bite the cop. Tom also told me that the cops said they had it all caught on film too.
I kinda wanna see this film footage.
So, there's my exciting Friday night
