If you have a minute or so to idle away, then check out this surreal little film by the Czech filmmaker Jan Svankmajer:

If you've never before seen any of his stuff (and I've never met very many people who have), and you like weird stop motion shit and trippy animation, then I'd recommend you check out the...

My first impression would be that you will have far fewer distractions in a small town, allowing you to stay focused on the program. If you are good at maintaining your class work despite a bazillion things to do around the city OR if you'd be more distracted thinking about all the things you wished you could do but can't because you are in a small town, then stick with city programs.

My four best girlfriends are all audiologists, like me. However, collectively we represent five very different specializations: Me = neurotology practice; Denise = hospital; Alisa = instrument lab rep, Allison = private audiology practice; Alex = cochlear implants. The entire field of audiology is moving toward the Au.D. as the entry level degree for the profession. Used to be that a master's degree was enough, but no! Now we all have to head back to school for our doctorates. I love school too, but for some reason it's harder to juggle a job, school and a life when you're as old and feeble as me. wink So we're all "Doctors of Audiology", just with different specializations. You can still get a traditional Ph.D. in audiology but it's geared more for teaching & research, whereas the Au.D. is a more clinically based "hands on" degree.

What field would be your doctorate of choice? smile

I like the new quote in your 'about me' section at the top of your page. i also like that you use the word 'yoni'. in a way that is kind of creepy.

I tried to go see funny lady Amy Sedaris (of Strangers With Candy fame) do a reading on Halloween, but Powell's had already reached capacity almost two hours before she was set to go on...damn, I knew she was famous, but not that famous! eeek

One of my four housemates just declared that she's pregnant and leaving, so we all have to find someone to replace...

R.I.P. CBGB's...frown

CBGB's closes down forever this weekend...I remember reading somewhere that the owner wants to move it to Vegas. surreal In any case, this legendary club couldn't afford the rent anymore (something like $20,000 a month I think I read once) & has succumbed to gentrification.

The NYT eulogy...

From Pluto to obscure religions:

If there was any religion currently in need of a good P.R. campaign, it's the Zoroastrians. Apparently this 3,000 year old faith (which I had never even heard of before I read the below article) is in major decline:

Zoroastrians Keep the Faith, and Keep Dwindling

"Zoroastrianism predates Christianity and Islam, and many historians say it influenced those faiths and...

that's exactly his problem, too. He did play cribbage solitaire and solitaire at least several times a day when he was home and able to get around. He played less once he started having trouble getting around. His dementia made it impossible to keep him occupied with it early on. There are times he could do those things nowthat he's on meds for it, but he doesn't want to. We've tried to get him interested, but he just isn't. The table he has for the bed isn't very big for cards and he'd probably be dropping them (and have to ring the attendants to get them). Plus, we aren't terribly impressed with the staff there - he's had his hearing aids fall out more than once (one of them got run over and broken by a wheelchair) and they've lost other small items (probably fell to the floor and was thrown out by the cleaning staff). We just don't think things would last there. He's never been interested in things like crosswords or puzzles, though.

So, Pluto has been demoted to the status of "dwarf planet." This is apparently the result of heated drama and debate within the astronomy community. Is it just me, or does this New York Times Article read almost like an article from the Onion? It's really all about a bunch of nerds duking it out over what to call Pluto...I love it! But now the...

It's been so hot here recently I could wring the sweat right out of my fingers...

On another note-

Not that that's actually happened to me lately, but it's just part of an idea for a...

PS: Yes, Virginia, there is, in fact, a strip-club in Portland called Sassy's. I have been there on three occasions. My friend, Jon, refers to it as the "wholesome" strip-joint. Make of that what you will...
