I came to this country with an open mind and all the optimism in the world. Given with the influence of narrow minded sociopaths all around me, but then, I've never been one to follow the majority path. My conclusion is that some things simply can not and/or will not be fixed/helped/cured/improved. Afghanistan is one of those places. I have worked on a team to help educate the afghan military to retain order, sort information, and react properly to combat situations.
Months spent in a classroom and on practical exerscises, explaining in detail how to approach a situation and come to a solution. Making very, very slow progress... But progress indeed.
Then, some asshole in florida makes a youtube video, and the entire muslim nation shits a godamn brick! FUCK!
Not only was all that time spent pulling godamn teeth to get almost nowhere, but it all dissapears as soon as ONE guy does something stupid. Did I burn a Koran? No. But apparently I am responsible for the actions of some douchebag ten thousand miles away! The frustration is beyond my tolerance. Fuck this place, fuck these people. I deal with enough narrow stupidity in my own country.
I write this not to pose my newfound jaded and angry demeanor, but to simply contrast the change in opinion a person can have on an issue such as the war in afghanistan within a six month time frame... Working close to the real issues... It's a fairly ugly thing.

When I'm back home, killing a bottle of scotch, It won't matter. It's sort of one of those situations that will always be the way it is, it's just best to let it roll past.
