why do schools do stupid things?
at my kid's school, his class is the first act in his christmas concert. of course, the school has decided to make it so have to sit and watch the whole thing instead of going home after their kids are done by having my son's class do another song 3/4 of the way through the 2+ hour long concert.
sure, some assholes just leave because they're assholes and don't want to "waste their time with a stupid concert", but some of us have a very good reason for wanting to leave early.
i had to have the boy up over an hour early today so he could be at school first thing in the morning for a rehersal (he's in afternoon kindergarden), so i've had to put up with a crabby boy all day. and now, tonight, because we have to stay pertty much until the end of the concert, he's going to be up over an hour past his bed time. i want to leave early so i can take my kid home and put him to bed.
but why would the school care? they don't have to put up with the yelling, screaming, crying, overtired child all day today, and probably tomorrow too before i get him back on schedule. no, they just want to make sure all the goddamned seats are full and stay full.
