Things are both up and very much down right now.
The 'up' is that I got offered a job writing for Red Hat Enterprise Linux yesterday. I start in a month doing a flexible part-time week to work around my classes and I'm on a salary that, based on the hours, is comparable to what I was on when I was working in government. I'm pretty excited about it as it could very well the the first step in my dream career. It's definitely going to make a lot of things I've been hoping for possible.
The 'down' is that I'm due to face court again on Thursday. I won't go into details but suffice it to say that a few years ago I made a very stupid mistake and, as a result, I have an ongoing relationship with the authorities. I got a phone call Saturday morning from the local station and, long story short, a breakdown in communication is putting me back in front of a magistrate. There's not really much they can hit me with (a fine or, considering I was was before court for something similar just prior to Christmas, possibly a state-sponsored holiday for a few days) but still, I'd just as soon not have to go through the system again.
Always think hard about what you do, my friends, some mistakes you can never live down.
