The strangest thing, to Ricky, was the garbage can. Out in the woods, in a clearing in the woods, all pine trees and up the hill from a stream, and there, just inside the trees again, a metal garbage can like you'd see in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game, all lines up the side and dented lid.

"That garbage can is so weird,"...

i know, wouldnt space be the coolest death? i was thinking today about the people that died in the shuttle (techinically they werent in space when they died, but pretty close). sure it sucks they died and all, but they were just out in space. man, i wish i could go out in flames like that. once i got to space, i wouldnt really need to do anything else in my life

Few days ago, was a family dinner, havent had one of those in ages. We went to Red Lobster, my wallet is still whimpering, and we sat around and talked for a few hours and had good food.

I know it's not as smashing as some super party with alot of drinking, drugs, and models, but I had a really, really good time. wink

I walked to the grocery store because I don't have a car. I feel pretty good about not having a car, but I seem to be the only one who feels that way. It was snowy and slushy and icy, all the more reason, thought I, to be glad that I don't have a car. The only slipping and sliding I have to worry about...

You are a genius.
I never would have thought of that. I called Borders and not only are they going to replace it-but since they only had one copy-they're putting it on hold for me.
Thank you.

Homicide.
It appears I'm now on a crime/cop/prison show kick.
I'm on the 5th season of Homicide and I'm just starting the first of The Wire-and I've got the first 2 seasons of Oz looking at me all impatiently.

#1: Chronicles, Volume One, by Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan has been floating around the periphery of my musical tastes since high school, when I found the Beatles and figured out that musicians my parents' age might have known what they were doing after all; but all the same, I never found the right way in until this past summer when a friend made a...

Yes...that is the right idea I was lacking expression for. Not people you would want to meet...but I reckon that might be why they were there. *shrug* I am going to chalk it up to experience though.... wink

I dont know why, but every time I see your profile picture I always think I see you in paramilitary gear or some futuristic leather outfit. I think it's just the - blurred - zippers and buckles and the black.

I finished my meal (and that pie was good!) and Carol approached, scribbling on her pad again. I was learning that I was a common man after all, and that what I needed most was a common meal cooked by a common wife. I asked her, Carol, are you married?

She cocked an eye and looked at me. No, I aint married.

And how did...

I will miss Will Eisner. He died today, a few days after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery.

WillEisner.com is his official website and had a lengthly biography and such. Will wrote and drews the Spirit and a Contract with God and Comics and Sequential Art. He knew a lot about comics and he thought a lot about comics and he elevated the art form just by...

I'm truly bummed. I have all the Spirit hardcovers so far and most of his graphic novels. The Spirts have never looked better (even the ones by Lou Fine, ect when Eisner was in the military). I've always wanted an original Spirit Page, but while he was alive, he only sold complete stories for prices WAAAY beyond my price range. Not likely his work will go down in price, and with Denis Kitchen presumably in charge of his estate (at least the Artwork), I imagine he will continue to uphold Eisner's stipulations when selling the artwork. Maybe some day I'll proudly own a piece - I believe that most if not all the original pages exist, wisely saved by Eisner himself. That shit belongs in a museum!!!

Shit. I just found out.

He will be missed.

Hey there, hon. Ya lost?

Oh, no, maam. No indeed. I am here for a piece of pie.

We got pie. That all you want?

I believe so, yes.

Meatloaf is on special.

Meatloaf is on special! I hadnt had meatloaf in years! Not since I lived at home, not since before I left for college.

Meatloaf, I said. Meatloaf sounds marvelous!

Whatever you say,...

killer

that was exactly the scene i was looking for during my brief stint back in TX over Christmas, but those kinds of diners are getting far too rare down there, now that the soulless wasteland of chain joints is taking over the entire run of Interstate 35 all the way from Dallas to the coast.

so sad

but that reminds me of the tom waits song, "Invitation to the Blues"

I slowed my pace and frowned and considered. I love the air in autumn, even still, and especially at Monument Circle on my lunch break. It just smells . . . orange, if that makes sense to you. Like fall. And fall (and orange) tastes like pumpkin pie. Why, why pumpkin pie! I wanted a piece of pumpkin pie, I wanted it right then, and...

If I May:

My Grandma died on Xmas Eve. The family was over for dinner and gift exchanging. The clearest memory I have of Grandma isn't about her directly, but the painting of Jesus she had hanging in her old blue house. It's hanging in her new white house too, I imagine, but it's in the blue one where I remember it. That white house...

Dying on Christmas Eve...now that's an auspicious day if I ever heard of one.

The Jesus painting? Give it to me. Although I would paint on it--not to defile it, mind, but alter the meaning.

I'm actually in a drawing mood again. I obviously still have your dream script. What did you have in mind for me to draw when you left that message a few days ago? If I'm on AIM I'll either be xXFairy VomitXx or Ed Suicide. 'Course, email works, too.

There was a pounding in my ears, my heart or his feet and I couldnt tell which. Both, maybe, or something else entirely. I ran down the hill, and I dont know why, because I didnt know where else to go to, I guess. I ran down the hill, taking smaller steps than I had going up it, trying to keep my legs ahead of...

I'm sure all the other nerds know this already, but Jim Lee--he of X-Men, Batman, Superman fame--has a blog that he updates fairly regularly. I haven't bought a Jim Lee comic in a long time, but I do think he's a really good super-hero artist--and the blog is an interesting look into a comic book artist's life and work schedule. He posts a lot of...

I have a friend who bought a TINY camera to wear around her neck. It'd be nice to always have one on hand. If I could afford it, I prolly woulda gotten a camera phone. But seeing as I'm broke, and this phone was free, and a camera phone would be several hundred dollers tongue
