I always knew Mr. Rogers was a badass. The following comes from a tumblr post by "magnetic rose" about him. I haven't yet been able to confirm all the points, but if true that makes him pretty awesome.

"Here are some interesting facts about him, though:

He basically saved public television. In 1969 the government wanted to cut public television funds. Mister Rogers then went...

I think the menu I made is pretty basic standard American food. It stands out here because there aren't many locations selling this as such, but even so I think it could be better. But for now this is a step in the right direction.

Relationships are tough here. My poor Spanish isn't helping my case at all.

The thing is not what is the worst that could happen. I'm not super concerned about any negative consequences. The thing is it's really difficult to translate what she says in Spanish to what she means in English. The thing she said was, "Vamos a subir a nuestra casa primera y despus podes ir a tu casa." Vamos can be translated as "We", "We're going", or "Let's go". It leaves a lot to interpretation. I didn't feel entirely comfortable assuming she meant me as well. Despus also makes it unclear. It literally means "after" not "later", however because it could be translated as later in some instances it may have meant, "Come hang out with us".

Anyway, I think it was all cleared up when she asked me if I was going home. But I didn't realize that until I had already left. I'm pretty confident there will be at least one more opportunity and I'm not making the same mistake again.

Yeh, I really should update this more. Well, here's a quickie.

Writing is going well. (except here) and I just found hard copies of a story that I thought was lost. It needs editing but rereading it after all this time it still makes me laugh. So, I think it's nearly time for me to put it out there, along with the other stuff I've...

So the past few weeks have been mounting frustration working under a 23 year old "head coach" who is in no way worthy of the title. If I'd known he was going to be hired, I wouldn't have stepped aside. It's frustrating listening to someone who thinks he knows it all make mistake after mistake after mistake all the while talking about "his" team and...

I'm crossposting this from rantspace on the feminists group. This has been my day today;

So today, I've been engaging in a facebook debate on the Catholic bishops not agreeing to the Obama compromise that would allow them to not pay for contraception services. The first people who chimed in were women who felt as though their religious freedom was being violated by being "forced...

I think we are in a fairly desperate conflict over many things, among them an individual's freedoms not only to make their own choices but to have any semblance of privacy and personal freedom. It's not going well. I might be tempted (and have been) to leave this mess but I came to the understanding that what happens here ends up everywhere, and soon. The American Corporate Model has been successfully exported to nearly every single square inch on this earth where people live and it is an abomination that has no room in it for the individual to do or be anything but the cog necessary. I am not optimistic and fear for my son's welfare. Thank you for engaging in the struggle, it means the world.

Also, thank you for your comment. There is no sadness remembering Yataiki, only wonder and gratitude. I was one of the fortunate few who were directly touched by his life and grace.

It was a good rant but I wrapped it up to quickly. What I'm working on tonight is doing it better for me. (You'll see it.)

"Beneath my hands
Your small breasts
Are the upturned bellies
Of breathing fallen sparrows.

Wherever you move
I hear the sound of closing wings
Of falling wings.

I am speechless
Because you have fallen beside me
Because your eyelashes
Are the spines of tiny animals.

I dread the time
When your mouth
Begins to call me hunter.

When you call me close
To tell me...

It was a fun trip and we finished well up in the order. All the boats ahead of us belonged ahead and many behind us did, too, so not bad. If not for waffling on our Great Circle Route strategy twice we might have come in a day or more sooner, but no worries. I'll post a proper update with pictures in the not too distant future.

Happy Holidays.

Thank you for the optimistic viewpoint. I have my moments of doubt, of course, but I'm certainly going to give it my 110%.

Okay so sorry it's been so long since my last blog. Things have been crazy here and haven't quite let up yet. Stress and a lingering cold have kept me from doing much writing at all including of course this blog. Tomorrow I have to get up early to coach a regatta so this missive will be short. Hopefully you all are doing well.

Cheers

Hope you are feeling better. I fly to Gran Canaria on November 17th in advance of the ARC. Very excited.

We were thinking we could win it outright with ease but a couple of fast big boys are coming now, including a Wally. We'll see, but unless they are the worst sailors ever we are looking at third in the open class. Still, you never know. Our sails are nice and baggy, perfect for a long, downwind race, and we are built for big air and comfortable in 25 knots of wind.
