Q: 1/12 Which artist across all of history would you pick to create a fan art piece of you?
As a SuicideGirls hopeful, my affinity for the unconventional and alternative is a defining trait. We take what people think makes us strange or weird and redefine it to be what makes us exceptional. No one, no artist, embodies this better than the master of dramatic realism, Caravaggio. If I had the chance to have an artist from history create a fan piece for me, it could be no one else
Caravaggio was not just an artist, he was a provocateur. His approach to art was raw, visceral and intensely emotional - characteristics that remind me of what SuicideGirls stands for. He broke away from the conventional and the idealistic, instead presenting people in all their realistic emotion and physicality. His use of chiaroscuro; a technique which uses stark contrasts between light and dark, would compliment the SG aesthetic beautifully, which plays with themes of rebellion, darkness and light.
Under Caravaggio's brush, my tattoos and piercings would be accentuated by the interplay of light and shadow that he was and is famous for. He didn't just paint pictures, he captured stories of passion, struggle and defiance. On his canvas I can see space where the alternative beauty and individuality that all of us hold so dear could be immortalised. Not just as an image, but as a statement of empowerment and artistry.
Choosing Caravaggio to create a fan piece for me is more than just a fantasy. It's a symbol of the enduring power of art to challenge what is normal, to celebrate what is different and to express the deepest parts of our identities.
