Ok, I love books.
I've got this reading list that seems to just keep growing. My nightstand is becoming a mess of all these different things, and being a history major certainly doesn't remedy that problem. There's just so much to learn about...so many things that I want to know.
There's a large bookcase that stands in the living room. It's huge and white and pieced together and I just love staring at it because It is completely filled with books. The difference is the majority of those I have read, and it just fills me with a sense of accomplishment. Granted I can't recall all of them, and I still refer to a few for papers or anecdotes or whatever, but to just step back to take it all in, that I've taken the time to amass such a collection. It makes me smile.
I don't honestly know if being well-read is totally necessary anymore. With the internet, you don't need to devour an entire book like before. Now you can munch on the good bits and discard everything else, and move on to the next. But to finish reading a book...especially a really good one, that to me seems like one of the greatest feelings in the world. Maybe it's just the historian in me, but reading a book just seems to help preserve history somehow.
