OKAY!

So, I had the coolest exchange with this guy at the video store tonite. The guy was this wicked towney, Bruins hockey jacket wearing, sweatpant sporting, mullet haired, half shaven Man's man. He saw me looking at the video case for "The Notebook" - a new movie that is a TOTAL "chick flick". So he says "That was actually an excellent movie. The story...

You're still being a stranger!

" Have you ever been skiing or boarding? Being a California girl and all? " ...

...ehem, did you see where my hometown is. wink

Yeah, I have a snowboard collecting dust back home. Never really got any decent usage out of it. The only place to board in my town was driving out to logged out clearcuts, which was kinda shitty in many ways, mostly because dodging stumps made it lame. A lot of kids in my town would pool their money, charter a helicopter, and get dropped off on top of some mountain for a day, but I was never into it enough to do that. I've never even been to a ski resort. I'll go to Tahoe someday.

Where's the finished paintings?!

So last nite, I broke out the tattoo gun I got in the mail last wee. First I tried the whole "grape fruit thing" for about five minutes before I said "Fuck it." and just went to town on my ankle. The following pic is my very first tattoo. I freestyled it. Like, I had no carbon paper or blue pens so I just drew...

no problem. i don't know what the deal is with some members. whatever

it's a sigur rs lyric. it's icelandic for "i gave you hope that became disappointment...this is an alright start."
antony:
awesome DIY experiment~ surreal

nah, I am sure my paintings don't reflect any particular person's state of minds. They are very personal recurring dreams that directly reflects as subconscious experiences I have in life, and the central focus may not be me but I always play a part in it. They're very feminine issues I'm dealing with if you get right down to it, so it'd be weird if you relate to my personal issues! tongue

I can't really take credit for the credit cards. I got the idea from a character in a comic book "Jenny One: Channel Zero" written by Brian Wood, one of our sg members.Click on him from my friends list. But mine are different in that I cut em in half.
aurora_b_alice:
The colors are so bright! How many hours did that take?
Yeah, I have the new Juxtapose, this issue has a lot of great stuff in it. Those Lori Earley paintings are fantastic, the interview with her is really interesting. And she's hot. I'm so interested in the strange styles that are popular in Juxtapose today, I wish I could see the the shows in person, but all those people seem to be down in L.A. Sounds like an art road trip! Are you working on any new paintings?

Glad you liked the song. You know...there is a wide-spread misconception that love is black or white, or that being alone is a sign that there's something wrong with you. Isn't it okay to love being alone? Isn't it okay to want some sort of affection, but not neccissarily be gaga, head-over-heals, I'm-going-to-die-with-this-person in love? Nothing in life is black or white, this or that, it's fluid and organic and it grows and changes, so why do we think that love should be either forever, or nothing? I'm not a big proponant of casual relationships, and I'm anti open relationships (it may work for some, but not me)....but at the same time I don't understand how can "til death do us part" is possible.

Dramatic love is just two people feeding each others insecurities and weaknesses. People have widely mistaken codependance for deep Love. Oh gosh, I'm going to stop right here or I'll go on forever.

confession: the superpower theme in Demo was pure marketing. i never once set out to write that sort of series. some had them and some didnt. i always approached it from the angle of the 'fantastical' rather than the 'superhero'. but thats what the comics kids want, so we helped them see it. smile

checking out your work now. i like the ink drawings, especially the Dog Eat Dog. what do you paint in?
aurora_b_alice:
It really pops out at you! It has such a strong, bold look, my eyes are constantly drawn to the picture. The couple really jumps out at you. I almost want to tell them to get a room.

I'm amazed that you're using acrylic on such a large scale, do you use slow dry medium? A liquitex representative came to my school to do demos on their products, and all the odd things you never thought you could do with acrylic. They have some product that you can do transfers of printed material with. It's clear and you paint a layer onto a newspaper or what not and then peel it off and stick it onto your painting! She also had taken some thickly layered gesso, and sanded it down with fine sandpaper, painted it with paint mixed with high gloss medium and it was so smooth and shiny it looked just like a decorative tile! They also had extremely high viscosity paint that was so thick she had to spread it on like frosting, you could practically mold it. Neat stuff, thought you'd enjoy. Um...if not, I apologize for the lengthy ramblings of my art nerdiness.

I'm going to get more ink on Feb. Vacation. Gonna be a broken TV, Ripped Credit Cards, and McDonald's Fries. All my old vices I've conquered. Got to give a shout out to Brian Wood for his character "Jenny One" who inspired the visa/mastercard idea.

Also, I'm working on some new paintings about Love. So let me know whatcha think about this work in progress.
