I just finished reading The Read Thread of Passion.

It brought up the idea that celibacy, properly done, isn't asexual but rather supremely sexual, since all sexual energy remains and continues to flow in the body. There has been so much talk of celibacy recently that I could not help but share.

In other news, there's not much other news except popcorn. I had...

I'm a crochet n00b too. I rarely follow patterns. But arm warmers sound delightful and I think I'd like to make myself some. smile

It's so hard to understand what someone is doing in crochet unless you see it yourself. You'll have to show me next time i'm in the citay. smile

If ice cream was a planet, part 2/topless produce enjoyment:
for Corinthia

Avocados are yummy. They are creamy, almost gelato-like. I wish I had some to experiment on right now, to see if I could make an ice cream from them.

My suggestion:
(serves one)
Planet Ice Cream

gently mash one avocado
add one pinch of salt
sugar to taste
mix gently
Do not freeze...

I asked, "Would you still love me if I were a cylon?"

He said, "Don't ask me questions like that."

--------------------------------------------------------------

edited to add: I got a new book in the mail. Or rather an old book (1969). I love the way it smells. It goes with the sudden undeniability of fall.

As does my ginger binge. Ginger spread is my favorite new condiment!

The Death of Handwriting

This got me. Imagine a world without handwriting. Grandma's scrawl inside birthday cards. Handwritten love-notes. Bartleby the scrivener. All gone.

Of course, I am a handwriting freak. I love my handwriting flowing across the page. I make my to-do lists in cursive. I know this is rare. I see myself in my handwriting, changing with my mood. The loops on my...

I can write cursive just fine, but I tend to print because if I'm writing quickly, my printing turns out more legible than my cursive.

Actually, she never cooked for me. So, that's one up for you.

Where cheese comes from (or should)

I went out to the farm store in New Jersey this weekend. Saturday and Sunday I just sold cheese, bread, and meat in the shop. We were slammed. Between fall foliage tourism and apple/pumpkin-picking tourism, we had more customers than we could handle. Thankfully, it was a blur, and my time was bookended with awesome food.

Yesterday, the shop...

Kickass cocoa

3 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbs sugar
3 tbs water
*dash vanilla extract
*dash cayenne
8 oz unsweetened soymilk (or milk)

Combine all ingredients except milk until smooth. Heat milk to desired temperature. Do not boil. Pour warm milk into chocolate mixture. Stir. Enjoy.

*This is the way I had it tonight. You can also give it a little gick with ginger,...

No recipes today. I've been eating strangely. Nonstop snacking. Picnics on the floor. Nibbling grapes like a sulking Minerva. An entire bag of Spicy Thai Kettle Chips. I gotta get my ass down to the LES for a doughnut soon. And where is my chocolate? Where is my chocolate?

Boyfriend is out of town. Out of the country. An ocean away. And I'm conducting a...

Oh, Rachel! Hi! It's good to see you.
corinthia:
You post recipes? Sweet. Maybe I should start doing that.

Today for lunch I made a sandwich of sauteed garlic, tempeh bacon, and sundried tomatoes - with melted provolone cheese, pesto sauce, and bread.

As per SaintInsomniac's request, I will continue to post a recipe when I make something good.

Most awesome baked potato

Start with a medium to large russet potato, preferably organic.
(Yes, I love the fancy potatoes too, but you want a plain brown one like the ones your midwestern mama kept on hand.)
Cut off all the funny bits.
Wash it and dry it...

I'm taking the Apex Bus. It'll drop me off at 88 E. Broadway around 4:00 am. Then I get to find my way to Grand Central where I'll take the Metro North redline toward New Haven. It's going to be a loooooong weekend, but well worth it!

I should be back in the city around 7:00 pm or so. If you'd like, I can let you know where I'm going to be and we can meet up. smile

Too long between posts...

I hadn't realized it was so long.

Since I last posted, I roasted a chicken (recipe to follow), made risotto for the first time in 9 months, and got a job selling cheese at the greenmarket in my neighborhood.

The job actually came out of the risotto in a way. I was up walking around on a rainy Thursday morning, passing...

Trust me, people, her risotto is something to pine for. Look at me, pining away.

So, hon, are you going to make recipies a common feature of your journal? I'm wholeheartedly for the idea.

I'm all moved but not all unpacked.

I do not have any birthday festivities planned for this weekend (even though I thought I would) because Mr Boyfriend ended up having to work this weekend as well as late on my birthday. But he did surprise me with a cake on my birthday. And since we were still in the studio at that point, he made...
