Oh shit! I'm back!

So here I am, still elbow-deep in cheese, but in a new apartment. In Brooklyn.

But I picked this moment to come back to the site because I'll be in DC over Labor Day weekend and most of the cool DC folks I know are hereabouts. So hello.

Oh, bad bad me. I'm here to disappoint you. I'll be going gray this week, mainly out of a preference to spend my money where I'm spending my time.

You see, my darlings, I'm in the process of working, having an internship, and trying to build a theatre company. And trying not to be a shitty girlfriend in the meantime. I intend to come back...

Well, colleges sometimes let you apply as a "non degree seeking student" or "non matriculating student" (same thing). My sister went to Columbia one year without going through any official application process that way... you especially can do this if you're an adult student (21 or over). You still get credit for the class, too.

I didn't even think to contact you when I was in town! Next time, for sure. What kind of cheese would you hook me up with?
I've been into: Piave, St. Andre triple cream, Aged Gruyere, Arina goat gouda, smoked gouda, garlic cheese, and extra sharp cheddars.

The garlic cheese is made by this deli in Philly where my boyfriend takes me sometimes, it's near where he dogsits for a friend.

I've gotten interested in making cheese; recently, I read a book called "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. It's about agriculture in this country and her family's choice to move to a farm and spend a year growing their own food. It has everything from the benefits of organic farming, to discussion of how to get one's produce locally to save on fuel to help the environment, to making your own cheese, and canning tomatoes! It's really a good read if you're interested in food.

My SG prodigy is going astray!

We'll miss you around here, you know.... wink

So, Die Walkure was pretty awesome. Apologies to DC folks I did not manage to connect with. I'm only updating now because I'm held captive at Insomniac's apartment and I'm drunk. Meaning I drank a bottle of wine with him and left him and left and had a pint with a protege to bitch about theatre and came back.

I'm so busy and not in...

I never noticed you having any hips at all! But yeah, it is the same in art. I bet I would find a lot more women who look like me in art than in porn or in Hollywood. The whole hourglass figure thing.

Hellllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

For the record, I am back in New York.
I did get that Valentine sonnet written.
I did get my driver's license.
I am looking for full-time work again.
I am looking for theatre work.
I still need to do my taxes.
I will be in DC mid-April for Die Walkure.
Life is pretty good.

We've reversed positions. Now I'm the one without a drivers license! It expired on my birthday, and I've been too busy to make it to the DMV.

Also, I need to finish up my taxes. Looks like owe for the first time. I'm not happy about it.

Hope you're having a good week up there!
corinthia:
When in mid-April, do you know yet?

When I was in high school, I could spin off sonnets like a pro. It was the only sport I was good at. And now I'm out of practice.

How is mobility treating you so far?
dominanefret:
It is so much harder for me to write poetry than it used to be.
I think it is mostly because my expectations of myself are a lot higher than they used to be. I want everything to be perfect right away.

And I looked through sgdc party pictures a little while ago and it made me miss you!

You should come visit us.

I am in Kentucky until the end of February, working on finally getting my driver's license. And I am not calling up my old friends or trying to make new ones until I get that card because I refuse to ask for rides any longer. That girl, the perfect navigator, the shotgun sally, she and I have parted ways.

Somehow it took moving away from...

Good luck! It can be scary but it's awesome that you're getting back in the saddle.
I just have a matter of a few hours before I'm ready to take my driver's test, but MD state law says I have to get them through an official driving school.
corinthia:
It must be so much easier to learn in the country than in the city, though!
I'm not sure if our laws are only for minors or not. It's worth looking into.

If I were driving to Kentucky, I'd be traveling 739 miles door to door. By plane, that's 807 miles plus layover plus 19 miles ground transportation = 826 miles and several hours of airport waiting. If all goes well, I'll be in Kentucky tomorrow night and driving by the middle of next week.

I have no idea what my online habits will be in the...

Are you visiting or moving to Kentucky?

If you are visiting, how long will you be there?

Have a good trip. smile

Note to DC folks: we have to figure out a to extend this "unknown duration" as long as possible.

It has become painfully apparent that I need to get my groove back. By that I do not mean I need to have sex with some handsome islander but conquer one or two things on a nagging list of unaccomplishments that I carry around on a metaphorical sash of anti-merit badges.

Most of all, I need to learn to drive, become comfortable with driving, and...

So, this is the belated pumpkin post.

I got a pumpkin a week and a half ago from one of the other farmers at my market. And some apples from another. I announced to the world that I was making pumpkin-apple pie, and they all scoffed. So I made a pie for our Fakesgiving and I had one slice and my boyfriend had the rest....

I found this one that looks okay as a base recipe, but I wouldn't put jello in it.

So! I wound up using a recipe from my tried and true, old-school Betty Crocker cookbook. I made the raspberry pie.

It turned out a bit more tart than I normally like it, but for all other purposes just fine in texture and flavor.

You've heard me lust. You've heard me rave. The world is in agreement.

Zingerman's Roadhouse dougnuts are orgasms deep-fried and topped with muscovado sugar.

How are you tonight?

So my Thanksgiving trip home was wild. First there was the hello, haven't seen you in almost 11 months stuff. Then there was the sadness of my newborn cousin's death--which was pretty much laced up in the photo slideshow my aunt made of his entire four-day life set to "Hey Jude." I'm taking odds on how long it takes me to start crying the next...

Making this brief.

My cousin gave birth to her first child on Friday. He died yesterday afternoon. Please (say a prayer/light a candle/include her in your lovingkindness meditation/whatever you do for people who are hurting) for her and her family.

Thank you.

Oh, my god. I'm so sorry...that's heartwrenching. I've said a prayer and sent much love and positive energy their way.
