I've been working on eliminating one of my most vexing and counter-intuitive traits. When I've had a lousy day or week, I do something senselessly self-destructive. I eat like shit or don't bathe properly or don't do the things I enjoy or spend too much money.

Last week was almost wholly bad, so I spent today not being self-destructive. I spent today living.

I woke...

I find myself quietly singing "You Can't Always Get What You Want". It seems apropos.

That song just came up randomly on my iPod and I had to come back here and laugh about it. ahahaha...

Yeah, I'm pretty bored.
sugar_on_asphalt:
You do know that Patrick Bateman considers that to be the saddest song he knows...right?

Be well, Reaper.

After some dithering and chivvying, I decided to buzz down to Portland to shop yesterday. Just as I started shopping at the Mario's in Tigard, my phone rang. My boss was frantic that our new messaging system was throwing errors.

Thus, I found myself sitting cross-legged in a pony-hide chair with my Tod's driving shoes tucked underneath me and a data-card bearing laptop propped on...

Have to wonder how people got things done with clipboards and ball point pens some days.

Since I got my Blackbook I have pretty much been MIA from all messenger programs. You would think that the lack of distraction would make me more productive as far as school goes, but alas, such is not the case.

But yeah, we should chat on teh intarwebs soon. Or something. I miss you, even if you do get all ranty in comic book stores. wink

What more can you say about a birthday that starts with breakfast at the most famous sushi bar in the world, dips into some high-end shopping, dives through an underground favorite tonkatsu restaurant, and ends up with me wearing Burberry clothes and Tod's driving shoes at a window seat on the 52nd floor of one of Tokyo's finest restaurants while sipping Dom Perignon and smoking...

Pitched like that? Instantly saleable.

I think you might like Tom McCarthy's new book, Remainder. Anyway, the protagonist reminded me a little of you, or at the very least your internet persona.

In a French cafe in Harajuku this afternoon, I ordered food from a Japanese waitress in French. It seemed appropriate.

We walked into the hotel room, and my first thought was, "Oh no, there's control panel for the toilet."

Oooh. Do I get a crown?

I spent a quietly civilized weekend. I've missed being quietly civilized.

In the past week, I've left several hundred dollars in cash, a checkbook with a signed blank check, and a thousand dollar refund check lying on my desk at work while I wandered off to do something else. I worry about my attention span some days.

Also, I love the sublime segues of iTunes. Sequences like New Order's "Perfect Kiss" followed by Jimmie's Chicken Shack's...

Trying to remember where my copy of "The Grey Album" is... (no, I don't have it on any hard drives and yes, I know that's ridiculous).

I woke up groggy, thinking, "I was going to do something this morning." Then while watching FutureWeapons, I realized that I was going to Target to buy a Wii.

Now the rest of my day is shot.

Ohhhhhhhh, you bastard.

I'm oddly hard to reach with new concepts that don't involve a compiler or networking cable. I don't know why; I just am. However, in my time on SG, a woman I never interacted with gave me one of the better concepts I've ever seen. DebraJean's profile on why she did SG used to read, "To receive the hate of the unhappy".

In other words:...

I was going to write a maudlin journal about how people apparently have been harboring a seething hatred for me, and then I realized most of the maudlin sentiment (and the weeping when I found out) is being caused by my exhaustion.

So for those few that read this and know me, am I really that bad a person? I know I'm a complete asshat...

Bad person? No. Bad persons don't help out their friends when they need a hand. Get some rest, because you are a worn-out person.
sugar_on_asphalt:
Oh Null.

Bad person? No. Intolerant of stupidity, yes. Intimidating, probably. But bad, no.

Everything is always distorted when you look at it through the lens of exhaustion. You've told me this many a time, and now I'm paraphrasing it back to you. Because as a college student, that's what I do best -- memorize things and parrot them back.
