I have a paper to write. It's only two pages, so I'm not freaking out, but I just really don't feel like writing it. I have to choose from one of Shakespeare's sonnets that we read, something from the first book of the Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser or from the Defense of Poesy or the first 10 sonnets of Astrophil and Stella by Philip...

Woohoo!! I got an email from the Phillies earlier offering a "six-pack". I got two tickets each to six games of my choosing, including THE HOME OPENER against the Cards, and the Saturday night game against the BoSox. The other four are a combo of FLA, ATL, and NYM.

I can't wait!!

I'm so stressed and frustrated and annoyed. My car is on its last legs. It is not reliable enough for me to work this weekend. So, I had to find people to cover my shifts and I'm going to be fucking broke from not working. And I have to spend a ton of money on a new car. I wanted to save the money I...

Suppose I should update....it has been a week after all....

I finished reading Oliver Twist. I liked it. Granted there were some cheesy coincidences in it; some improbable occurances that can only be chalked up to Dickens pondering the role of fate in our lives....but on the whole, I thought it was damn good. Now I just have to wait a couple weeks until...

My thesis was, unfortunately, an academic one rather than practical experience in translations, which is what the bulk of the degree program was. I researched esoteric questions of dubious practicality regarding semantic change in Russian economic terms borrowed from English. puke

Even if Lit doesn't lead to anything more "fulfilling" or lucrative than philosophy, at least you're doing something you enjoy. People make career changes all the time now, we are no longer a slave to that 50s ideal of working for the same company all your life, so you should just study what makes you happy. You probably won't get a job based directly on your degree anyway. Good luck!

Hey! SO, I saw on an old Boards thread that you are a Kevin Smith fan. Not to seem like a schmo, but I just started a View Askew group...so, stop and check it out! Please? biggrin

I had a great Christmas....hope y'all did too.

I got lots of cool stuff inculding bowling shoes, so I'll have to start bowling more frequently now.

It was so nice having a few days off in a row and not having to go to school on those days. We drove up to Saginaw Sunday afternoon and just got back into town last night. It was,...

I've been slacking on that whole updating thing....I'm a bad, bad person, eh.

I finished reading Pride and Prejudice.....good stuff! I liked it a lot. I also read Heart of Darkness and, despite constant Apocalypse Now clips in my head while reading, I enjoyed that too. Now I am on Oliver Twist and I am about a 100 pages in.....apparently I don't hate Dickens. I...

Yesterday I watched A Gentleman's Agreement.....good stuff.

Today I am watching How Green Was My Valley (better known as the film that beat out Citizen Kane for best picture!)....it's decent. John Ford is really good (that's my understatement of the day).

Sunday I am excited because I get to see Woody Allen's Annie Hall at the museum and then go over to the Little Theater...

Yesterday I went and got a library card. I haven't had a library card in over ten years. For as much as I read that may sound surprising. But, you know what, I don't really like libraries.....they make you give the books back! I like to own my books, dammit. However, I had heard they have a great selection of movies at the library. I...
