How Suicide Girls influenced my superstitious sports fan ritual.

Introduction

I’ve been a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan my whole life. For those that don’t know, the Bengals are an American Football team that just went to the Super Bowl, but they have been a fairly unlucky franchise. I encourage you to go look on Youtube if you’d like to learn more about them because the story is pretty interesting. Sports fans can be fairly superstitious and when you’ve had nothing but bad luck for years, you’ll try just about anything. Prior to this season, the Bengals hadn’t won a playoff game in 31 years, and since 2005 they had made the playoffs 7 different times, losing all 7 games. This year when they made the playoffs I wanted to do my part. Looking through my various shirts and Bengals paraphernalia, I wanted to make sure I didn’t wear anything unlucky. I had these orange and black Bengals socks that I can’t remember wearing before, so that’s what I went with. After seeing all the vibrant colors and amazing women on Suicide Girls, I had the bright idea to post a pic on my social media. Striking my best pose, I snapped a pic and threw it out for the world to see. Finally, my socks brought them luck, the Bengals snapped their losing streak beating the Raiders in the Wildcard round. So the next week I had to wear my socks again, and I needed to find a new pose to post on social media. Each week, a new pose and the Bengals kept winning. I hadn’t really expected to have to do this multiple times, but I gained a healthy respect for the women who do this all the time. It’s not easy to think of a pose, setup your camera, hold the pose long enough so it’s not blurry, retake as needed, and then edit a post. My pregame ritual was taking an awful lot of time and effort. Sadly the Bengals lost in the Super Bowl to the Rams, but it was a fun and interesting experience. I thought I’d share my socks set with all of you, who knows, maybe I’ll go pink. What’s the craziest superstitious thing you have ever done?
