Well here goes my second attempt.
It's currently 9:15am in London on a Saturday... and I really have no idea why I'm awake, Saturday mornings should be spent in bed asleep.. Perhaps it's due to the dilemma from my previous post, but whilst I'm up I thought I'd "pen" a few words on here.
I had an interesting drink fuelled few days although it certainly wasn't planned that way, but is it ever?
Wednesday evening was spent catching up with an old friend in Leicester Square. What I didn't know until I was about half a mile from the location was that the Twilight premier was happening. I'm 38 so the movies don't really turn me into a crazed and obsessed with the mortally challenged fan, although I did enjoy them in a guilty pleasure kind of way. Anyway, I don't think I've ever seen Leicester Square so packed! They actually built some form or perimeter fence with watch towers so the police could keep an eye out. You know you're getting old when the first thing you think is "well that must of cost a few quid"..
This was before the fence went up, apparently these guys had been camping out for around 3 days prior, I hope they got to see the stars.
Not such a great idea to meet a friend so close to the mayhem, and no I didn't get to see any of the stars, shame because Kirsten is kinda cute and I'm so happy they're back together blah blah blah (note the sarcasm).
We managed to have a few drinks (too many) and I discussed the new tattoo ideas I'd been going over with the artists. He's not into tattoos so you get the normal comments of "don't you have enough, what about work, what about when you're older".... We've all heard them before right?
Thursday evening was taken a little further. Again it wasn't planned but hey, I'm single and refuse to sit in doors when I can be out and about. This time I wasn't going to risk the packed tourist locations so I arranged to meet some friends in the Shoreditch area. To those of you who don't know, this is probably the artier side of town with lots of galleries, independent clothes shops, bars, clubs and restaurants.
"Happy hour" certainly kicked things off after a nice bite to eat and I was well on my way to a fear and loathing in las vegas kind of night. One point however..... After "Happy Hour" can they really charge 9 for a single shot of rum? To say I was past caring at that point is an understatement but still, it needed to be asked?
We met some really interesting people though, such as a couple on their 2nd date after meeting on plenty of fish dating website. They weren't that interesting themselves, but the guy seemed to have the uncontrollable urge to chat up other women whilst his date was dancing or having a smoke outside. Now this is a new low for me, I mean seriously guys, show some respect.
What I do love about London at around 2/3am is that you can talk to anyone, ok maybe it's the alcohol and not the time, but people become friendlier. I don't remember too much but apparently I insisted on tying up some girls shoe laces (it's my age again), consoled a Belgium girl who was clutching on to a bottle of wine after being stood up by her friends and came between to other friends who wanted to kill each other and then we all got in to a taxi to share the cost...
Tonight I'm in Clapham, another place known for it's bars and at least it's local (I'm a South London boy), so I'm sure I'll bore you all again.
Sorry for my ramblings, ciao.
