Okay so that was gross and let's move on.

Made soup last night. Let me state up front that my soups often require the use of a fork to consume, especially the next day's leftovers.

My goal was something along the lines of Panera's creamy chicken whatever with the wild rice, because I had a box of wild rice and it was mocking me. So....

coding all day, stress eating due to stresses. came up with a new recipe. put a hot pocket in the microwave. while it's cooking eat 2-3 chocolate ice cream sandwiches and pound a can of Dr. Pepper. if at all possible die immediately afterwards, otherwise eat the hot pocket

I had a day like that only it entailed shoving yogurt covered pretzels in my mouth until sugar coma set in then I cut the effect of sugar with nachos.

1 glass whole milk
1 whole bunch of Hershey's syrup
1 stir that shit up and slam it

I AM A CULINARY GENIUS

I am also going to be stinking up the house for the next few days because I'm mildly lactose intolerant, but I ain't even care.

Writing this down for posterity. Dad's Caribbean jerk spice recipe. This is a starting point, measurements are in parts, experimentation must be made in order to achieve perfection. Unfortunately you really have to wait until the jerking process is complete to taste the results, since the long cooking process drastically alters the flavor.

8 Onion (dried? grated fresh?)
12 Thyme
4 Parsley
4 Allspice

Never in my life have I made jerk chicken but now that this formula has been bestowed upon us perhaps it is a good time to start.

Ancient Korean secret for a delicious, wildly unhealthy dinner:

Get one of those Korean ramen bowls from the supermarket, Bowl Noodle brand. I like Hot & Spicy or Kimchi. Prepare as normal, but lay a slice of American cheese on top of the noodles before you pour the boiling water over them. Son, you don't even know. If you got the spicy ramen, the saltiness...

I am going to exterminate the god damn stinkbugs.

Not just the ones in my house. I'm going to wipe the planet clean of them.

I admit, I hate the little bastards. But that's not why I'm going to wipe them out. I'm going to wipe them out because, very clearly, they want to die.

Like, just now. I'm minding my own business, trying to...

Stinkbugs are the most terrifying things. Hadn't encountered them until my first visit to San Antonio when one alighted on my shoulder just like you described. Holy hell. I almost dislocated my arm trying to shake that fucker off.
velvet_petal:
Eww. I don't even know what those are but am now afraid as well just on your recommendation alone.

I feel like an essential part of my childhood has died.

I love candy. Anything sweet, really. So, HalloweenFall candy day and EasterSpring candy day are obviously my two favorite holidays. Realizing that I haven't enjoyed a grab-bag of random candy in years, I hit up the random candy stall at the supermarket--the one with like thirty different kinds, where you just put...

I should probably write a few words about hummus. Hummus is one of my favorite foods. It hits the same parts of the palate as meat, cheese, and fried things, but it's a lot healthier. It's got a warm, comfort-food flavor, which can swerve in almost any direction you like--towards the traditional Greek/Middle East, or into Tex-Mex or Italian or even non-specific Asian depending on...

Merry Christmas, mfb. Thank you for making me look like a hero to my mother. She is now hooked on the vat of hummus I gave her.

Can you help me understand how this is different from firing someone because he/she is a jerk?

Cause everyone seems to be on the same side as me for this one, and I see the two as being essentially the same - firing someone because of personal feelings having little or nothing to do with that person's work behavior.

But I don't want to post about it in that thread, because it's just going to reopen the can of worms.

So, I make mac 'n cheese 'n broccoli on the regular because it be bangin'. Also it's pretty simple, though the mats are relatively pricier than some of my other staple dishes. (I use rotini instead of macaroni because those spirals soak up sauce like the main event at a bukakke party.)

I start by heating around two cups of milk with about the same...

Sounds good, I like rotini better than elbows too. If you're looking for low carb pasta, try Dreamfields.

Oh, and that baking soda on the onions thing works great.smile

The Mrs and I made some decadent grilled cheese sandwiches. Carmelized onions, bacon and Gruyere on light rye. I ended up making two batches of onions using your technique. The first batch held some shape, the second, I used a little too much and ended up with mush. Still very tasty.biggrin

I've never done a Thanksgiving before, so I'm pretty pleased that this one turned out so well. We held it at my roommate's parents' house, where I cooked for a total of nine people. Way more food for way more people than I've ever cooked for.

The main course was ham, because I wouldn't know what to do with a turkey and also ham is...
