Interesting week to say the least.
I went to the SG Australia Ball last Saturday which was in Brisbane this year, it is the first time that I have actually meet anyone from SG in person. They were all very nice and I had a great time.
It was a costume ball with a computer game theme, I went as a Ghostbuster, I put the logos on to some coveralls and I constructed a Proton Pack out of mostly recycled parts from reverse garbage and spray painted it, it was good fun and I wanted to put in a good effort.
I won best dressed male and I got a lovely gift pack, I was very excited and had a very nice night.
Unfortunately after leaving the ball and going to a pizza slice place down the road to grab some pizza before getting a cab home things have gone a bit sideways.
Upon exiting the said pizza place an unidentified person has punched me in the face and then disappeared. Perhaps they were a ghost, or allied with ghosts who knows.
But I have ended up with a cut eye, a cut on the nose and covered in blood.
There was no option to say the line "We came. We saw. We kicked ass".
It was more like the police asking me who hit me? and I trying to explain that I wouldn't know who it was if he was standing in front of me and I just wanted to go home, I was of course at this time rather drunk which did not at all help my observation skills.
It a negative way to end the night, but home I went.
Sunday morning I wake up, feeling not to bad apart from the usual feeling of waking up after being punched in the face but amazingly hang over free.
I head out to see my Dad for Fathers Day, "Hey Dad, how are you?..... Guess who got punched in the face last night" ect ect.
Dad says "Make sure you go to the Doctor and get that checked out Tomorrow"
Monday comes and goes, typical me, I will be Ok. no Doctor.
Tuesday I ring in sick to work because my eye is swollen, no Doctor.
Wednesday I ring in sick to work because my other eye is starting to swell, it's time to make a Doctors appointment, and hour before I am suppose to go in I am contacted to say my Doctor has gone home sick and they will book me in for tomorrow morning, Ok no problem I can wait.
Thursday I have the day off from work already, at this time I have a passing resemblance to "Joseph Merrick" and as I drive to the Doctors I wonder if I should in fact be operating any large machinery.
Once in with the Doctor and Remove my sunglasses (the ultimate accessory) the Doctor says you need to go to the Hospital now, she then takes my temperature and asks me how long I have had a fever?
I didn't even know I had a fever, more points for me, so she calls the Emergency Department to let me know I am on my way.
So I spent my first night in hospital since I was born, on a drip, sent for a CT scan (minor fractures in the bridge of my nose), all very new experience for me, saw 5 doctors with different specialities listened to talks of possible viruses attacking my brain, getting into my blood stream and starting to shut down major organs in my body, the possibility that I could lose my eye sight.
This is really rather scary, so after a night in, they are happy with my recovery.
I have been released to out patient status, A nurse is going to come and put me on a drip every day for the next 5 days and hopefully it is clear sailing from there.
I already feel better but I still have a ways to go, if I start to get worse its back to the hospital and I am hoping to stay away from there for another 37 years.
So thats my week so far, the morals of the story.
Number 1, HEAD INJURIES are serious business. No matter how small and insignificant you may think they are. Or how stubborn or tough you think you are, go and get that shit checked out by a medical professional.
Number 2, not everyone likes the "Ghostbusters" sure they were popular in the 80's but maybe they scare the kids today.
Number 3, I still won best dressed.
Thats it kids, be safe, look out for each other, sent to you from the road from recovery.
Much love,
PS, to whoever hit me, no hard feelings I just home you broke your hand on my hard head.
