"And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold"
Hell on Wheels
So Sunday Kage ventured out with me to watch one of my friends do a photo shoot for a BMX magazine. We met up at a skate park out in the hills. It's starting to get a bit too cold for these kind of activities, but I had some fun and rode a bit myself after the shoot was done. Kage sat around freezing, and heckling the young skateboarders who were trying way too hard to be tough guys.
I picked up a skateboard a couple of months back. I've never really skateboarded, but I'm at this weird spot in my life. I rode my bike somewhat professionally for some years. I was deeply imbedded in the "scene". I knew, and partied with all the guys on TV, I knew the dirty secrets, and lived the "extreme sports" lifestyle. I've taken a hiatus from it for 1 year now. I still ride my bike because I enjoy it, but for the most part I'm bored.
I picked up the skateboard and everything had a completely different look to it. I don't know what I'm doing, so I still get excited like a little kid when I learn the most basic little move. While it makes me eager to get out and do it more. I still feel that I'm in this weird place. I don't relate to the bike scene at all anymore. It disgusts me, on some levels. I don't relate to skateboarders at all either. Nor have much of a desire too. In regards to both scenes...for a bunch of supposedly liberal free thinking punks, I've never met so many close minded individuals. Maybe I've got a broader perspective then I should.. I don't know. All I know is I'm pretty much destined to be the weird old guy at the edge of the park that nobody really knows anything about.
My talented friend Roy sent me these from Sunday. Check his sites for some rad street photography and graphic design.
