G'day.
It's currently 1:10am in Sydney, Australia, and I'm sitting up in my bed, knowing I should be getting sleep, but not really feeling tired. So... I think the best way to attack this blog post and make it somewhat interesting is to split it up into my main recreational pursuits, as well as my occupational obligations, which I normally update on anyway. So, breaking it down-
1) Playing Bass with Lock 'n Load.
2) Playing lead guitar for the one off covers band for the Mondo project
3) Working and doing my Youth Work engagement thing on the Mondo project, and
4) Working my bottleshop gig.
Ok, so... number one. I never thought I would say this, but I'm actually really enjoying playing bass with these guys. I don't think it's so much the bass work that I'm enjoying... it's more so being able to contribute to the song writing process, and having my ideas listened to and explored on further. Some of my influences and nuances have appeared in some of the songs, and being told I'm way better and complimenting to the band is a bit of a confidence boost too.
2) Now this is something I'm super stoked to be doing. As part of my work's end of year chirstmas party, myself, together with three other regular users of the outreach youth service in which I work, have put together a cover act to do a 45 minute set worth of music on the night. I'm really enjoying mentoring these guys and taking them under my wing... but at times I have to remind myself that they're kids, and that they don't grab some concepts as easily as a seasoned musician would. But all in all, I think it's going to be an awesome night. I'm looking into my project budget to see if I have enough money to hire a production team to capture some audio and video footage from the gig, and look at turning it into a promo reel so the young guys have something to take away from all the hard work they've put in. If it all works out, watch this space for some video footage of a washed up rock 'n roll dirtbag sharing the stage with some very talented 16 and 17 year olds
3) The Youth Work thing is... I'm not sure, actually. I'm not getting the same kick out of it as I used to. I think I need to move on. I've been submitting applications for other positions, so I guess we'll see what happens.
4) Bottleshop. It's busy. It's just getting into summer in Sydney, and everything you've heard about Australian summers... is true. It's hot. Ridiculously hot. And as such, the alcohol industry booms. The store manager has just taken his 3 months worth of long service leave, so it's fallen onto me to help the assistant manager (who's only relatively new) out with the running of the store.
Anyway, that's enough out of me for one night. I suppose I better attempt to get some sleep. Good night, or good morning, or good afternoon everyone (depending on where you are).
Seeya!
