As reported by NyteSpryte, we saw Grindhouse last night. I thought it was entirely awesome. The fake promos and film artifacts did a great job of creating an atmosphere. The missing reels were especially funny because, as some of you may recall from an older journal entry, when we saw Poltergeist at the Prytania, they had the reels in the wrong order. Being at...

It occurred to me just now that one reason I like Linux so much is that my first computer was a 286 DOS machine. It had Windows 3.1 on it, but it booted to the command line by default. My uncle showed me some important commands, and left me with it. I figured out the "startwindows" command, but I stayed on the command line most...

We're at Z'otz. Tara's been drawing and I've been writing a short paper, one I was going to write in two days, but now that time is free to get started on at least one of the papers I need to write before the end of the semester. Bleh.

I am in the mood to get all of my work done as soon as possible,...

Had lunch with another job candidate yesterday. He was a lot nicer than the last guy, so I hope they hire him.

Got home, did some work, then more of the same today. I ended up deciding to call it quits a while back and have been messing around with my computer. I found out that Second Life has a linux client in alpha. I...

The beta for Ubuntu 7.04 'Feisty Fawn' went live yesterday, so I did a force upgrade to test out the upgrade process and see how feisty this fawn really was.

My answer: damn feisty

First things first, when the computer reboots, I get dumped to a command line because the kernel update broke the nvidia-glx driver. Now, I can handle the command line. I mess...

I finished the other paper I needed to finish before the end of spring break. My guess is that no one else who has to do these papers has even started on them. Sometime after UBC, I became less of a slacker and more of an overachiever. However, my method of getting work done is just to start early and spread the work out. I...

I really, REALLY need to learn this lesson from you about schoolwork when I go back... it's funny though because I'm the exact opposite at work, work... always getting more done and ahead of schedule... hmmmmm.....

And yes, you're exactly right about the venting thing. We were just on completely different pages for the night. I praise Goddess for letting me get back on SG so *I* could vent... she's on my MySpace list, so that wouldn't have worked! (the girl, not the Goddess... although that would be kick ass...) shocked tongue surreal

I've been oddly productive the last few days. Despite burnout, I've written nearly four papers. Of the ones due right after spring break, I just have about half of it to go. Should be a piece of cake to finish tomorrow. There's some reading I still need to do for next week, but at this pace, it won't be a problem. I'll also be able...

Yesterday afternoon, I turned on the laptop to make sure my files were in order for today, and I saw a large number of updates were available. Now, I had just had a huge update on Friday, all KDE-related packages because (from what I gather) a new minor KDE release just made its way into the repos. Now, partway through this update, I get asked...

The new girlperson returned to Los Angeles yesterday, so we miss her. We're talking about taking a trip out soonish, and I hope it works out. We'll just have to see.

In other news, I at least know I can make up for lost time. Today, I wrote one short paper for this week, read some philosophy of mind while we did laundry, and wrote...

I had a thing goin' on with my sinuses.

So I started taking oregano oil extract, mama mia!

I kind of helps, but the caveat is that you're supposed to eat these capsules every day for 30 days. D'you think I got ripped off?

Glad to know you're feeling better man. I've been out of touch with the community for a looooong time, but I'm still alive and kicking (to a certain extent) and finally getting "settled in" here in Boston (funny how it takes a long time for something to finally hit you (what? I'm here in Boston??? What??? What happened to my family and unnecessary problems??)) and going well with school. Spring break coming up soon (two weeks) and I'm going over to Cali for a little while, but I wanted to ask you where you live in Canada, partly because I was thinking about going up to Canada sometime before the semester is over, but I don't know where to start. Unless, of course, I've been so out of touch for so long that it's not you who lives in Canada. Either way, I'm glad to talk to you again man.

How's life been for you??

Things have been hectic lately. There's been running around with a new girlperson, taking care of said girlperson while sick, and somehow trying to go to class and get some work done. Thankfully, Tulane isn't as hard as UBC, and I have the laptop so I can work anywhere. Otherwise, this weekend would have been far worse.

I've barely been online except for in class...

So, it's Mardi Gras day, and i feel like Slurms Mackenzie after he's all partied out. My throat hurts from too much smoke, and we missed the parades today because we stayed up all night last night and slept until 2 pm. However, the last few days were very... active, so I'm cool. I had a decent Mardi Gras experience this year. Everything went kinda...

To party all the time is not really partying. Sounds like you had a good time though friend. Which is the point, no matter what you're doing.

Can't wait to see that flick myself. smile

Mardi Gras is one nutty time, and it makes this one nutty city. It's something I still like about the city. I've spent very little time sober since last Wednesday, and I don't think I'm going to be sober much until after Fat Tuesday. I have managed to get a paper written, a damn good one, too. Writing a paper during the day, then parades...
