I miss mixtapes. I remember trying to record audition tapes as a kid - they were wretched. Trying to find the best "acoustics" (the bathroom) and then edit by re-recording over yourself.

Same with mixtapes. You had to be really really quiet when you made them, but I think that human error element is what made them so endearing. You know the other person put...

I was having a conversation about mixtapes not too long ago with a friend of mine. It seems they're almost nonexistent - they've been replaced by playlists, which I don't think really hold the same ... I don't know how you'd describe it; endearing effort, maybe? They both take thought to put together, but there's something about knowing how much time went in to actually creating the mixtape, and then giving/receiving the physical product - its almost magical.
