Went to the Taste of Chicago over the past weekend. There's something incredibly fun about going to crowded events. Once you get past the initial agoraphobia, you realize you're only walking with sheep. Crowds like this bring out all the insanity of our society. Jesus Saves signs about on the streets entering the event, a Hispanic Jesus walking around in tennis shoes holding a cross and chanting a prayer under his breath and hoards of people eating like slobs.
We went because it was Chandra's birthday and she wanted to see Cheap Trick. Not a fan, but I did have a good time looking at the crowds of weirdos. I saw people that resembled others, even jokingly saw future Ryan.
Borat made his appearance in the crowd. A man, obviously extremely foreign, and it was his demeanor and outfit that gave him away. White shorts and a fluorescent orange speedo underneath. He was also holding a briefcase and lunch bag. His eyes skimmed the crowds bugged out and waiting for someone that was not there. People called out to him jokingly giving him the title "Borat!" I'm not sure if he smirked from that or utter confusion, but one did appear.
Then there was little shorts man. He wore the kind of shorts basketball players wore in the 70's, but his was shorter and tighter. He also had a loose fanny pack draped over his midsection. Cheap Trick played a familiar song and he began dancing. He would wave his fists in the air, face so full of energy he looked pretty mean. Then he began to jump up and down and up and down, with the fanny pack bouncing off the fanny. I tried not to look when he turned around and continued to jump.
I saw a few kids sporting pot leaves as headbands, a bag lady and several homeless men looking for extra tickets. Skinny emo kids once in a while made an appearance followed by the large muscle men. I even saw a man with highlighter yellow hair with an overgrown goatee.
Crowds can make great stories.
