Things I notice when I work with the wealthy:
I've seen the plastic and paralyzed faces to hide their age, but no one's fooled. Grimaces and grumps walk around and wish only to be left alone. Don't you dare cross their path or smile. I still smile and my intention is not to mock them. I'm better at smiling. Once in a while, however, someone will surprise you with goodness and you understand that some people are worth it. Not in money, but in personal wealth. I guess some can give up on money motivations when they already have enough. Some people will not stop.
For the unhappy ones, you can see them a mile away. Some act nice, but will say something so back handed I'm reduced to laughter. Some give me nasty looks because I don't think their face can take any other shape. What's the cure? Paralyze it. Smile lines are the look of someone who ages gracefully; frown lines deep within the forehead are the target areas for Botex. I still don't understand why I overhear them telling their friends they look so "refreshed."
I've worked with many classes and it's not just a class issue. Many people are unhappy and don't care who they will run over to satisfy the taste for instant gratification. I've been 'robbed' at work from someone doing anything for a hit of, what I can only assume, crack. I've had my job threatened because someone was unhappy with an end table. They can afford a shit-load of end tables but it doesn't matter.
I already know I'm not well-suited for retail sales. I've seen all the faces and many are frightening. I'm happy I work behind the scenes. I no longer want to deal with people who want to take advantage of your goodness. It may seem unrealistic to think no one will take advantage of you, but I know if I work with people who want help, at least I can put my talents to good use.
