Thank you for the tag, @kungfury !

Xmas/Holiday Q&A

1. How was your Thanksgiving and what are you thankful for? Much like @kungfury, I am from the UK, notably England, so we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. I am thankful though, for just about everything. As I get older, I realise that there is less to be thankful for in material stuff, but in regards to everything...

@mirameow Music is one of those things that is, against my own better wishes, far more important to me than movies or TV. When an artist is really good, they can tell stories just with their lyrics alone, for instance, Bruce Springsteen. If you listen to something of his, like 1980's The River, you begin to draw your own conclusions as to what is happening, it becomes vivid and you can see the characters in your head, from their struggles to their triumphs. Of course, The River is somewhat biographical, so Bruce doesn't make it hard for you to visualise what he is saying. It's the same with Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, you relate to Tommy and Gina and want to see them succeed. Songs like those resonate with me because they tell stories. Thank you for the kind words, btw, I hope you are well x

Great combo of questionnaire answers, and now you are making me question any yellow snow cone I encounter.

@cheshire_ Nope, that would be Learning to Fly, which is still an awesome song :-) Learn to Fly is Foo Fighters and the story behind how I discovered that song is both funny and also a little scary. I first heard it on the radio back in 1999 and knew I had to have it, so I bought it on CD (How old am I? LOL). I listened to the single basically non-stop, including when I had a severe case of Montezuma's Revenge, suffice to say, there were many mad dashes to the old Porcelain Throne between plays.

Listen to music with your ears? Ā Philistine. šŸ˜¬

What are our feelings about it? Everyone seems to be using it nowadays, whether it be to replicate the voices of long-lost stars, like John Lennon and George Harrison on the newest Beatles record, Now and Then and imitating Stephen Fry's voice on the new Harry Potter audiobooks. Or artists using it to put characters into situations they would never have been seen in, and...

Why is everyone saying "AI"? It's not. AI is a self-determining (sentient) computer program, an individual identity. What you're all calling AI is properly called Advanced Intelligence programming, which is decidedly not a self-determining individual. For 30 years, manipulating photos has been referred to as Photoshopping. Similarly, manipulating audio is Mixing or Remixing, which is what you are all talking about in this case. Elvis Presley's 2002 A Little More Conversation is a Remix by Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg). And the Beatles' Now And Then is a Remix too, nothing more. The problem is, McCartney, like all of you, think an advanced computer program is AI. Whereas,Ā MAL (Machine-Assisted Learning), the program he refers to, is still just an advanced computerĀ program. "AI" is just the current buzzword. We're still a long way from achieving the reality. Grr! etc šŸ˜„ Just enjoy the music, folks ā¤ļø

Iā€™ve listened to The Beatles latest remasters intently, and caught most of the news stories and personal interviews of the surviving studio production members. They admit Sir George Martin was an absolute wizard at developing new recording techniques on the fly, especially when the original masters were mixedā€¦ stuff like putting the microphone in front of a playback speaker already tweaked to enhance the multi-voiceover style so prevalent with the early Fab 4. Iā€™m reading he also would occasionally let his fingers drag the tapes in later sessions to enhance the psychedelics. These tweaks were very aptly carried over into the 2009 box set which I love tremendously, and which also produced the first stereo versions of older masters - perfectly done and a trick in itself worthy of Houdini. But in these latest ones itā€™s sometimes bland, off key, and I struggle to wrap myself around each Beatleā€™s voice. They often sound like wedding band imitators. Then I see stuff like Jeff Lynne and Dani Harrison may have dubbed over the stuff that couldnā€™t be recreated from Martinā€™s old masters. And after several more listens I must say I hear Lynne Ā more than I hear Lennon. Not hating per se, just befuddled over quasi sacred rock and pop music getting chewed up then presented as an authentic remaster just for shits giggles and greed.

Gazing upon beauty is one of those things that makes you feel good, it raises the old endorphins in the same sort of way that going to a gym does. Artists like DaVinci and Botticelli knew this all too well when they created art such as the Mona Lisa and Birth of Venus. It is also probably why they are two of my favourite pieces...

It didn't matter whether it was day or night, life in this city, especially for a cop, was always gonna be, exciting.

I looked down at the slain man and I could have sworn I'd seen the poor schmuck's face, somewhere. Dive Bars, Nightclubs, they were all the same to me, it was just another night in SGH City. He'd evidently got on the wrong...
