I have 3OH!3's Don't Trust Me entirely stuck in my head. This sucks, because I don't like 3OH!3. I admire nothing they've created, and they fall into that category of "Club Music" that I utterly fail to give a shit about. On top of this, the casual mysoginy in their lyrics (terrifyingly typical of "crunk"-styled music) causes the whiny feminist in me to actively dislike...

So I've been learning about music production and engineering and mixing and whatnot, and can I just say that being able to recognise clipping and overcooking on albums which have been mixed at a higher volume has ruined what little ability I had left to appreciate mainstream music. It's like when I learned to recognise, and subsequently HATE, autotune, except that it's fucking EVERYWHERE.

This...

After 3 months of free membership on the back of a classic set recommendation, I'm finally a paying customer of SuicideGirls. Finally actually contributing to the money used to pay for sets from these beautiful women.

Still, getting an SG account for free was pretty good too! smile
And hey, they're making money off me now, so it was a good business call too.

hyatt:
Haha... well, that last statement applied to the pics I didn't post.

Welcome to SG proper. wink
mk47:

SO! I've been trying to sort out a little home recording studio as of late, and I've been pouring through I/O interfaces and MIDI controllers and drum machines and the like. I've also commenced the writing process. Most focused I've been in a while. It seems like this project is going to be a post-metal/sludge metal type deal in the vein of Isis or Cult...

Just to remind everyone that, as a Front Magazine reader, I was totally into Mel and Lora before they were cool. When they become huge, I totally get all those hipster points.

So, for all I complain about work, it appears that I didn't actually have to be in all last week, except for two hours on Friday. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH

I'm mildly pissed that none of my supervisors mentioned this to me when I showed up, but ce la vie. It's my own fault for not paying attention to the shift calender. I think they're giving me holiday...

Henry Rollins is a fucking champ. And he's right about girls who read.

Also Melissa Clarke from Front Magazine's set has just gone up. She's gorgeous and she'll make a great addition to the site.

Having a grindcore evening. Pig Destroyer into Rotten Sound into Discordance Axis, and beyond. Maybe some old (read: grindcore-era) Red Chord too. Nothing like enjoying a genre of music which I'm pretty sure no-one without a Y chromosome has ever listened to willingly.

pandie:
Ooh pig destroyer, nice!
Well, some of the cops had rubber bullets and some had real guns. We saw some people get shot in the chest who didn't die so I'm assuming they were rubber bullets. But. Things got crazy in there with smoke bombs and pepper spray and all kinds of shit. I would believe anything at this point.
hyatt:
lol 'grindcore'. I've never seen that word or heard of it before.

So I've been scaring myself half to death. I've been watching the vlog Marble Hornets, the most popular incarnation of the mythos surrounding an internet meme called the Slender Man. Originally made up on SomethingAwful, he's now the boogeyman behind a couple of dozen independent fiction projects all establishing different chapters in his mythos, generally blogs or vlogs. And a good portion of them are...

How can you do it?! I generally avoid horror. I really just can't hack it. lol I watched '28 Days Later' and couldn't sleep. I sat in a cold sweat with a knife in hand all night.
leaves:
I don't even know. I've loved horror ever since I started reading Goosebumps at the age of 6. I get scared, I just really enjoy it. I also have kind of a morbid curiosity, so if I'm told that something's scary, I'll make a beeline for it. My favourite book is, at least partly, a horror story so potent people have had trouble sleeping in the same room as it. My favourite TV show has a page on the website TVTropes entirely devoted to things in it which are there to induce nightmares and another one devoted to the stuff that wasn't even meant to induce nightmares, but does anyway. There's probably something wrong with me.

I'm just curious; what do people think is going to pick up the Oscar gold this year? Personally, these are my picks. Quite a few of these are my optimistic, "in an ideal world" calls, and the rest are cynical, second-guess predictions but whatever:

Best Picture: Inception. The Academy owes Nolan for snubbing The Dark Knight and they know it. The Social Network is also...
