Two things that are extremely played out at this point, in my opinion: steampunk and zombies. And I say this as the guy who started the steampunk group here back in '05. They're both still neat ideas but maybe they need to take a break for a decade or two.

with every trend, it will run it's course and then people will forget about it for a while, and then it will appear again, and then disappear then reappear......gotta remember, these kids now-a-days think the 80's were awesome.
mistersatan:
Yeah, especially zombies. I fucking can't go buy a pack of smokes without hearing about some zombie-related movie, book, or dildo anymore.

Why do so many bands sound great until somebody starts singing? Why is that the hardest part by far?

I am still listening to, jeez, what is this, 4th or 5th wave shoegaze so the vocals are just in the mix.

But, yeah, bad vocals kill so many promising songs.
koleeta:
um, science? Science is the answer to everything so yeah, because of science people have different preferences to vocal styles, etc. etc.

Well, that is extremely helpful. I've been using the grouping system when I add new "friends" but I never really knew the value in it. I just assumed it was a way for me to protect my own information and updates - but I never really found that feature either.

Now I have it filtered to only show me updates from people I know through SG.

Have a friend who's always been a console gamer, but has recently started to get into PC gaming. I helped him upgrade his computer, get a Steam account, etc, but it's really frustrating because there are all these annoyances with PC gaming that are standard issue for PC gamers but that are mind-boggling for console gamers. Driver issues, port forwarding, patches, mods, DRM, etc, etc.

listening to the Kinks "Arthur" just last night.

"US budget is like Oregon Trail. Spend all the $ on ammo; wonder why your wagon is falling apart & everyone is dying of dysentery." - Reddit commenter

Been kind of obsessed lately with the latter-day Neil Young album Ragged Glory. I really only like his electrified hard rock stuff, and this album is one of his best in that vein.

Alas, yes.

Perhaps I am so earnest that my brute honesty only seems like sarcasm.

Oregon Budget Trail!

This word applies to so many things right now. It's the reason I can't watch 75% of the comedies that come out nowadays. I can't stand this feeling:

Fremdschmen (pronounce: "Fremmd-Shamen") is the German word for this sentiment of joint embarassment. In the literal sense it means "external shame".

So you've embarassed yourself in front of friends, family, the whole country, your entire hemisphere, the...

A bit like when Rocky loses to Mr. T (I've just watched it tonight, it seems kinda relevant)
bean:
Ugh, seriously. I can't stand anything on TV (or, for the most part, in movies) where the set-up is that someone has done something that puts them in a very, very uncomfortable situation. I can't handle it. The idea that this is somehow entertaining for some people perplexes and disturbs me.

Barren lands and barren minds
In another place and time
I feel I've never known myself
Frozen in the sand again

See the blank expressions waiting for progression
They're standing still in place and time
And no one's moving, they're only
Standing still in ice cold ice cold ice

All machines and all are one
Catching up on what's been done
Stealing glimpses from the...
