My cat, Snickerdoodle, has been sick for a while now - barely able to hold anything down, not nearly as active or chipper as her usual self, not greeting me at the door like a dog when I get home from work - and I think it's time for me to do the humane thing with her.
That kills me.
I've done it before with the two dogs I had when I was growing up. It's never easy. My animals have always been my closest friends through thick and thin and Snickerdoodle is no different. She sleeps with me every night and has been doing so ever since a few days after I took her in upon a neighbor's request. She'll crawl right on top of me if she sees me get under the covers. She purrs every time I'm near.
That purr is weak now. She moves slowly and has been having a hard time focusing on me or anything else. When she does I see something in her eyes that just isn't right.
She's kept me alive through many depressions. I honestly believe that if I didn't have her waiting for me every day for the last 10 years I probably wouldn't have survived some of them. But I have to do what's right and make the best of the time we have left. I can't be selfish and let her suffer. It's causing me to suffer as well. It's just going to break my heart into a million little pieces when I feel her go to sleep in my arms that one last time.

I hear you. I feel so sorry. I had 2 cats that I loved so much... just like you. The end was the same. I never cried that much. My best thoughts to you.
