I'm feeling considerable more biggrin than I was yesterday.

Hope you are doing well! Are you still on the road?
twelve:
Thanks, miss. You know, I just noticed how much your profile picture looks exactly like you.

Lissie is way manlier than I am about drinking straight liquor.

I have entered the world of academic administration. Emails, calenders and official looking jackets. I'm now your regular working gal. Up before the sun with NPR and in an office without windows for the rest of the day. Sigh.
Luckily I have decided to treat this new experience as another opportunity to make art. I started writing an email called, "Artists in Offices". My old...

Thanks, my friend. smile Said nights do serve their purpose sometimes, I have to say.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Pup's hanging in there for now; we should know in the morning whether it's something that could improve or not. Apparently it's something wrong with his kidneys, and thus far they can't determine whether it's some manageable condition or a treatable infection or full-on kidney failure. Either way, though, we'll know something tomorrow, and that's the most important thing to me, really. I can handle it if things don't work out, but I don't think I could have been okay with not finding out whether things could work out, if that makes sense.

I'm sure I've said this before, but I hear that Ann Arbor is great. And I will always kind of miss having my own apartment wherever it's located. (I had one for about eight months, tops, but still: pretty awesome.) I'm glad to hear you're taking to everything so well! Any fall colors there yet?

Come to think of it, there's a slight chance I might be in Ann Arbor or thereabouts the weekend of Thanksgiving (unless the time off I booked for the day after gets rescinded--I started a new position this week, and the old position really didn't require me to be very strict at all with when I was in the office and when I wasn't , and the new position is kind of the exact opposite of that. It's not impossible that I'll talk to my new manager about that time off and she'll go, "Aww. You got the day after Thanksgiving off, back then? That's cute. I'll see you at 8:00AM on November 25th, k?"). If I manage to get there, we should try to meet up!

Thanks again for the well-wishes; they mean a lot to me. smile

No, I just didn't want some of that stuff there, and I'm super tired of that old picture.

we watched chaplin and the boy in striped pajamas (in our pajamas biggrin) and had veggie potstickers (which may have contained traces of assembly-line accidental death).

This post is about new obsessions. I already wrote that Art 21 is amazing and everyone should watch quite a few of them. Number two new obsession is New Yorker Fiction podcasts. I used to listen to music while I painted and it was great but due to the fact that I don't have a tv I've I decided I need to stay up on...

I am a huge fan of the TED podcast, you should check it out too. Not like you don't have enough stuff to watch/listen to already. If you like the New Yorker podcast you should also try the Moth Podcast as well.

i like your girl Lashauna, she's got a great smile and sense of style

i'm crazy for the gallup poll daily podcast. 2 to 3 minute vids on what the americans (that I dont hang out with) think about things

and in a historical context, trend data sometimes back to the end of WWII

to answer my own question:

i am eating yellow rice with pintos (totally reminds me of brooklyn)

New post due to the fact that i couldn't stand seeing my paintings cut in half. It was seriously painful and just wrong.

I made an "announcement" about my jacked hair. I'm kind of getting used to it? She didn't cut it how I wanted it at all and while trying to fix it just made it shorter and shorter. I was hoping to grow...

I like what I saw of Fueki's work. I have to admit that I have trouble sometimes with painting, because it has more to do with the mind than the physical world, unlike photography or sculpture. I mean, you can paint a representation of anything in your mind, but a photograph has to be of something in the physical world, even if it's abstract or distorted. Likewise, sculpture necessitates choice and use of physical materials, again, grounding the work in the real world.

I'd really like to talk to you about painting sometime, if you have the patience. Especially since you're soon going to be an academic (teaching?). wink

Also, my friend just got back from Mexico City- he said it was great, and didn't think it was unsafe.
sgdm:
Thank you..I'll post the fully painted art asap! (It's unpublished til next month...and my editor would not be impressed with me putting the finished art up prior to printing!)
Hope all is lovely!

Upside: Going to New York tomorrow and I have something that resembles a crew! My fellow painting posse (ok me and two best friends) are heading to new york to meet up with their new york painter friends, my girl from undergrad and fellow resident artists I met back in the day.

I can't wait!

Down side: I have to get up at 5. boo....

That was the other guy in a red hoodie and green puffy vest. I left that part out, but he was sitting on a bench outside the store, muttering to himself. There were four cop cars around (that's probably how the girl's car got towed come to think of it), but none of the cops would go near him. It was bizarre.
sgdm:
I've posted up a proper scan of the Tank Girl art!
I'm so easily pleased! LOL!

Wow. I'm getting really good at these youtube posts. My new favorite song:

This song is stuck in my head and I can't get it out. Now I'm off to paint and teach some college kiddies. Wish me luck! Also wish me warm weather. I'm sick of the snow it's so cold and dark in boston.

I did one of those cd things too when I was about 14, haha. My boyfriend did too, a few years ago, and they sent him Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits. How weird!
browneyedboy:
Thanks. It wasn't easy. I was totally serious about the looting thing too. It's not like I needed the stuff, I just needed something to do. So did other people. I heard neighbors fighting with each other out of frustration.

The head of the painting MFA department (he is god) asked me to watch his dog for the weekend while he has his show opening in NYC. Everything was awesome till this morning where I had to rush one of them to Angel Memorial. He was throwing up and had diarrhea. He possibly (probably) ingested oil paint. He is alright but I feel like hell....
