I suppose I should update here, because, well, the distance between the Red Sox and the Yankees is no longer 10.5 games.

Yes, I have to correct that. Sorry.

IT'S NOW 10 GAMES! biggrin biggrin biggrin

And the Yankees are only going to get hotter after the All-Star break. wink

Just a word to all you Boston fans out there: 10.5 games bitches.

You're only up on the Yankees by 10.5 games.

In '78 it was almost twice that much, and that was in August.

Look over your shoulder, because we're coming to get you. biggrin biggrin biggrin tongue

You're so right - this dissertation is the hardest thing I've ever written. It's a lot of "back and forth" for me. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what I want to say, but I can't really say it b/c I haven't done enough research - but organizing a research/reading program is hard when you don't have a real point. The whole exercise is just inherently frustrating.

I actually need to buckle down and start doing some writing. I had a good email exchange with my advisor the other day, and I've been doing some data work that's about ready for analysis - but I need to get down to producing pages. I sort of count "data work' as the same as "writing" - they're not *exactly* the same. But data work is more like writing than reading, so I give myself a pass. wink

Tja. So I've been in Germany for a little over a week now. I can't complain: the Zwischenmiete is just as the Hauptmieter described it, and the walk to my research offices is only about 20 minutes; there's even a bike for me to use, which I have ... it's great to just go riding down on the Mosel River.

All my friends here have...

So my sister is here and we'll now head over to Amsterdam for a few days and then go down to Paris to see some skating (ok ... what she wants to do), and then do thanksgiving with friends in Trvs ... could it be that I'm getting sentimental for America ... ?

I'll try to document my sentimentality anyway at least with pictures...

D. wink

Finally a new update. Not much to report though. The new person I met in summer ... well it was a summer thing. But that's fine.

Right now, I'm just making a new translation and finishing up my Doktorarbeit. Also making a new application to a CERTAIN German academic exchange, damit ich hier lnger bleiben kann.

Hope all is well.

11.11 kommt brigens gleich... Was...

So now it has been more than a month since I updated ... but I have a good excuse. I met someone new. smile

We met about a month ago, and have been seeing one another every weekend since, although we live several hours apart.

What else is new? Nothing done on my dissertation and my Doktorvater is here in two weeks! eeek

I'm going to try...

Can it really be almost a month since I've updated? Well, at least I've been doing something on my dissertation again: finished a chapter last week, and went right back to writing again this week. I want to turn in a first version in September, and that means about 100 pages between now and then, some of it not researched yet.

Anyway, I'm also trying...

Finally getting settled back in to a rhythm here ... only 10 days after arriving back. I don't know why it took me so long to get over jet lag this time. It doesn't usually take that long, but for the last 10 days, I was going to bed around 4:30, 5, and even sometimes 6:00 am, and waking up anywhere between noon and 1:30...

I just got back from New York, and haven't been up here in over a week to update. I flew there because my grandfather died on Tuesday, 10. May, and his funeral was last weekend. I would never have thought that he would die before my grandmother: he was always fairly healthy, and lived on his own until about two months before he died. It...
