The Internet is a funny place.
This past week, Ive taken kind of a beating online. First there was a post on my Facebook page that wished me a happy birthday, but pretty much called me a sexist at the same time (said post was removed without asking by the poster, so bygones are bygones). Then there was a comment on The Watchtower site in response to my post a few weeks ago.
I was actually kinda bummed and a little hurt by both of these incidents, and it got me thinking about what a strange world the Internet is. A platform for anyone to spout off about anything without fear of reprisal, or the necessary things one usually needs to make and argument like, yknow, facts.
In the case of the Facebook comment, once I saw that it was removed I assumed that it was one of those things that might have sounded good in ones head, but has a totally different context online. Ive made those mistakes before, as Im sure that everyone who communicates online has, so no harm no foul.
The Watchtower comment stuck with me though. Not just because it was something of an attack on me regarding issues that this person clearly has with Diamond Distribution, but because of the time and effort the person had put into just to tell me I suck. I understand that on the Internet, you gotta have a thick skin, and I do. It was just a little strange is all.
Which brings me to the other side of why the Internet is so great. It also provides people who read those kinds of remarks an opportunity to respond to them, and show a guy like me that theres a lot of people out there who dig and support me, for which I am continually amazed, and incredibly grateful for.
So yes, this has just been a roundabout way of saying, Hey, thanks! to those that leave comments on any of the sites that I frequent. Even the bad ones, because those are the ones that really stick with you and in an odd way show you how great people on the internet can be.
