Eyes
by: DJ Beckage
I'm not the man I want to be.
My eyes have seen enough in their time;
Visions of trial and fire and life and loss.
But it was a piece of my heart that hurts the most.
It's easy to see there was once love
In the eyes that gazed across at me.
Now, there is simply hatred and anger
And the small piece of my heart, sacrificed.
Likely, I'll never see her eyes again.
Those eyes, that never deviate,
The late-night conversations lost.
One night that illuminated and destroyed.
The piece that I shelter in my chest
Will be all that remains.
And when I fall asleep at night,
I'll dream of undeviating eyes.
