In the world of sexual expression it can often be hard to find examples that are not degrading or hurtful to women. So often women are the victims (raped while passed out at a party - really guys?! You should be castrated!) or doe-eyed damsels (learning about sex through her smoky and worldly bronze-chested rescuer). Gag. Retch even.
It's one of the main reasons I joined SG. The women are strong, proud and in control of their bodies. Moreover, they are not afraid of sex. They embrace it, own it! These girls would castrate any frat boy with presumption and are more likely to be the instructors themselves in a learning situation.
But where else can we go? Most porn treats women as vapid, big breasted bimbos who might as well be blow up dolls for all the attention men give to their needs. In erotica, this is not quite as common, but does frequently seem frustratingly male-centric unless you go to a site that is specifically "by women for women."
One genre I have found that seems to break this mold is steam punk erotica. Steampunk in general features strong female characters. Girl Genius, for example, is centered around a woman who is loved and respected for her, you guessed it, genius. Ok fine, she is big breasted and beautiful, but she is certainly not vapid. So it is unsurprising that steampunk erotica would follow suit.
I guess I wish there was more healthy sexual expression out there. So thank you SG, Steamy Punk and other like sites that are fighting the good fight.
